My fiance got my ring from James Allen, the ring is absolutely incredible the 1ct diamond is flawless with a color D. Fair price and we got the ring fairly quick within a month.

I’m so in love with this James Allen pre-set ring, but is it a good idea to do pre-set? It says diamonds will be between G-H, and SI1 clarity.  I gasped when I first saw this ring and I have to have it! Just wondering if it’s a good idea and if James Allen is trustworthy

Hi jm1773 ..well I was in the market for an e-ring to give my girlfriend. I had high regard for Blue Nile initially until I saw a few reviews that alerted me to that fact that you don’t get to see Blue Nile diamonds before hand. On the other hand James Allen gave me 360° views of the available diamonds. And like poorinlove said.. I too called them up at some insane hours …2 and 3am and they were on hand to answer my ‘silly’ questions. Talk about customer service. I spoke with Erika, Marcus, David, Ray and others, all of which were very helpful. So I’d recommend them.

James Allen has a nasty habit of providing incorrect email quotes and later trying to pull the price when customer is ready to pay. It had happened to me twice already. My husband bought my engagement ring from James Allen and I bought his wedding band there. Quality wise they were very good. However, it was really stressful and quite a hassle to deal with them. They sent me FOUR different quotes while I was tryring to buy my husband’s wedding band. There was so much going back and forth, on top of other wedding planning stuff. Just recently my husband lost his ring and I reached out to JA. This time around, it took them almost a week to quote me. Once I was ready to proceed with the purchase, they pulled the price and claimed it was a mistake, and instead asked for $1000 more than the original quote. Because of the recent experience, my husband and I will no longer buy from them. We are reaching out to Maryland Consumer Protection as well. Buyers beware.

I’m confused. What on their site would require a quote? You purchase a stone and you choose from prepriced settings. There’s no quotation involved?

we ordered my ring from there and while i haven’t seen it yet, they have been AWESOME to work with! I’m also confused about the previous posters comments about email quotes.. the prices are clear as day on their website. they have 24/7 chat which i made really good use of (lol probably used it too much) and they were always super friendly and helpful! i also love that they give you the option of paying via bank transfer and even give a 1.5% discount for that method of payment (we live in Germany and thats pretty much the standard payment method). anyway.. my ring will be delivered to my parents house in the US tomorrow.. hopefully my bf proposes while we are there at the end of the month so I can add pics and quality to my review 😀

Not sure what the poster was talking about but I’ve never had to deal with quotes on JA website. The prices are clear as day and the customer service reps are extremely helpful! My Fiance bought my ring from JA and they went out of their way to help him purchase a diamond w/ the band within his price range. They also ensured my diamond was extra sparkly. I would buy from them again.

My review of James Allen is not as flattering as others.

I am based in the UK and after 3 weeks of waiting (no complaints there) I received my ring only to find out it was a completely different shape to what I had ordered.

I immediately contacted them through the online chat where I was told it was the same ring I ordered. After I angrily pointed out the clear differences between the ring I had ordered and what I had received and pointed out that my ring looked suspiciously like another ring they offer they refused to accept that the rings were different.

JAs explanation is that they had “tapered” the ring for a more comfortable fit which I explained has now changed the shape of the ring I ordered, they had never contacted me to enquire if they could do this.

They have agreed to pay return shipping and give me a refund but I am going to have a fight on my hands to have my tax and customs fees refunded plus all of the hassle of driving to my “local” Fed-Ex depot 40 mins away.

Suspiciously a few hours after my complaint the ring I had chosen has now miraculously disappeared from their website. Hmmmmmmmmmm

My advice would be to avoid this company at all cost.

I’m having a lot of difficulty visualizing what you could be talking about, and considering they don’t cover international shipping but are covering yours for return I’m not exactly sure what you’d want them to do to rectify the issue? Send you a different ring for free so you don’t have the hassle of a free return on what you bought? They can’t do anything about the customs process.

Hey guys,

just came across this thread and thought I’d give my two cents. I’ve heard good things about James Allen, but haven’t actually made a purchase yet. I will probably do so soon.

I really like the 3d pics they have but I’m still not sure if I can tell the quality properly. The pics look kinda blurry – maybe it’s just me.

Has anyone ever looked at the 3d pictures, purchased and then n was disappointed with the diamond they got?

Would love to hear some thoughts or stories. I checked out this review and they swear by the company. Not sure who you can believe on the internet though.

No I have not and hope they’re great. Please stay away from Mandarin Gems. They wouldn’t take my ugly ring back. This is a total lie. you have 3 days to return anything. They went out of business in Montclair, Calif. I can see why.

My engagement ring is from James Allen and not only do I LOVE it, to keep it a secret from me the company did everything they could to help my fiancé. 100% love them, and my fiance loved that there were close up videos available for him to view.

Love the ring, not too crazy about the box!

My ring is also from James Allen and I love it. The craftsmanship is great and the center diamond sparkles even more in person than in their online photos. I was very impressed by their large selection of settings and loose diamonds to choose from. I would absolutely recommend them for an engagement ring!

I find myself in the same situation here – I’m looking to get my lady a nice diamond ring to solidify our relationship and have heard great things about James Allen online. My best friend actually bought his now wife a ring from there last year, and said the process was smooth and easy.

I’m more price shopping at this point, and many of the jewelers that I went to around here do no offer and refund. My biggest first is that Kate wont like the ring when i give it to her OR she will want to get modifications to it OR swap it out for another ring. This is the reason why I’m slightly leaning towards James Allen because they offer 30 day money back guarantee according to this review. Has anyone here ever “tested” this company’s money back guarantee to see if they actually honor it?
