Rosegoldroseg :  I also ordered a ring from James Allen within the last month and had problems. The ring was suppose to ship on August 3, but on the morning of August 4 it still hadn’t shipped. I ended up changing my mind on the ring and decided I wanted to go with a yellow gold set instead of platinum so I canceled my order. I got an email response saying that they received the request and would be refunding my money. The email was actually written by a staff member, not just an automatic response. A few hours after the email confirming the cancellation I get a notification that the ring had shipped and was time stamped well after the time I had cancelled the order.

I got the ring, and it was beautiful. I even wore it for a few days in case I decided to keep it as a right hand ring or stacking band, but ultimately decided to ship it back and exchange it for a yellow gold ring. I got an email notification from FedEx saying that they signed for the delivered package with the returned ring either yesterday or the day before, but have not heard anything from James Allen. Now I am having problems trying to access my account and order status on their website. I am going to have to try giving them a call, I guess. I am kind of bummed, because I got the platinum ring on sale, but since it took so long to arrive the sale was no longer on and couldn’t be applied to the purchase of the yellow gold ring, and the sales rep said she couldn’t apply it after the fact when I explained the circumstances to her.

I think overall they are a good and reputable company, the ring was beautiful, and the customer rep I spoke to was nice, but they were a little overwhelmed by the number of orders they had over the past month from the sale they had going on.

I ordered my ring from Brilliant Earth and it took almost a month (not custom). It was not delayed, that’s just how long it took. If you cancel your order now, you will be waiting for even longer when you have to order another ring! Just try to be patient. I understand that waiting is torture (been there) but JA is a popular and reputable jeweler. Find comfort in knowing that they are taking the time to make your ring perfect! If they continue to delay, press for a more definitive reason as to why it’s taking so long. At least then you’ll know what is going on.

Ours was from BE and I think it took a few weeks.

Rosegoldroseg :  this happened with my James Allen setting too. I was upset but man I am so glad I waited for them. It was the dream setting I always wanted. I got on the phone with them and they upgraded my shipping to rush overnight for free, and they agreed to try and have the jeweler expedite it. I was firm, but polite. It was worth the extra wait. 100%!

I’ve ordered multiple times from JA over the years. When I order loose stones, (twice), they come quickly. When I order something to be placed in a setting, it takes for bloody ever. A month on average.

All of this lateness would be perfectly acceptable if they would just adjust their anticipated ship date out by a week or so. By creating the expectation of a ship date, that in reality is too liberal, they let customers down.

JA has good and bad. Their website is excellent, the ability to view the exact stone in 360 is unsurpassed. But I’ve grown tired of the excuses and back and forth with them. My next order will be from elsewhere, I think. Overall I do recommend them, especially for a novice customer who doesn’t know diamonds very well.

I just canceled my order this morning. I called to check on the status, because the link to login to my account on the website still isn’t working, and the customer service rep told me that it would still be another week or so before they even check in my returned ring (they got it last Thursday), then another 2-3 weeks for production of the ring. I will be going out of town in September and there is also the possibility of my husband getting a job in Vienna, Austria and we would have a short amount of time to move overseas. I don’t want to risk either being out of town or living overseas if the ring is finally delivered, and it is getting too complicated trying to time the delivery. Maybe I will ask my husband to get it for me as a Christmas or birthday gift, because I still really love the ring. By then our lives should be a little more settled and it won’t be a problem to wait a few weeks for the ring to come.

Rosegoldroseg :  I am happy you finally got it and that it is perfect! It must feel good to not have to worry about it anymore.
