Hi everyone!, new bee here 🙂 I want to upgrade my setting. I have my eye on 2 settings from james allen. One is a halo, the other is a solitaire. Both are vintage. Here they are:
vintage Halo ($1270):
vintage solitaire($780) its hard to see but the side of the ring has a diamond also):
Okay here is my problem. I own 2 diamonds. One diamond is from my husband (0.60CT , VS1, G) and the other is from my grandmother (0.75ct ,SI2, F). I dont mind setting either of these diamonds into my setting.
I love the price of the solitaire , but im worried my diamonds are too small for a solitaire centerstone (I currently have a solitaire WITH THE 0.60CT and constantly experience shrinkage). I also love the halo but not so much the price. But I know if I go with this one Ill get maximum finger coverage and I dont think shrinkage would be an issue anymore. Im just worried halos wont be as timeless as a solitaire. it might go out of style in a couple years. plus Ive never owned a halo engagement ring, so I dont know if Ill regret it down the road.
so what do you guys think? whcih ring looks better with a 0.60-0.75ct center diamond? or just looks prettier in general?

Personally I like the solitaire setting the best. But I will say I have a halo with a .74 center stone and I love it. I’ve had it for 5 years and when I switched to a solitaire setting I missed my halo and had to switch back. I think halos are here to stay, even if they’re not everyone’s preference. Have you tried halos on in person? They are a great remedy for Ring shrinkage!

They are both beautiful but I’m loving the halo!!

I’m normally a solitaire fan myself, but I can’t stop looking at that halo! That is absolutely stunning.

Both settings are gorgeous! I worry that the center stone might get lost with the solitaire, though – when I look at the sample photo of the solitaire set with a 0.7 carat diamond I feel like I can barely distinguish the center diamond from the rest of the setting. Also, it sounds like you’re wanting a “forever ring” and won’t want to make changes/upgrades later – if that’s the case, and you can afford the halo setting, then ~$500 isn’t a huge deal in the grand scheme of your life! Although I know a lot of bees don’t agree with that view 🙂

I personally would choose the halo. But honestly, both would look STUNNING with either of your stones. 🙂

That halo is so unique and I feel like there’s really something special about it. Plus given the size of the stone you plan to use, I’d pick the halo. I think it will look amazing!

I usually am not a big fan of halos, but in this case, I really like it! I think it’s because it’s not just a halo, but also stuff going on down the sides. Maybe I’ve just seen too many bees with awesome halos, but I’m really am starting to like them!
but… The solitaire is beautiful too. I think if you had a 1+ carat stone to mount in it I would say go for it. A smaller stone will be lost on that ring I think
