I have never been but James Allen is amazing!! I had many diamonds shipped to me from JA in NY, when I was trying to find the perfect oval. So I assume they have a large stock. Best wishes!! Enjoy your search!

You should pick 3 diamonds you want to see from their website; they generally can fly two in and pull one from onsite. They will also ask you to fill out a form with your personal info, including work details in addition to having you send copies of your ids. You’ll have to fill these forms out for both you and your SO. It’s actually the most cumbersome process of all the retailers but maybe worth it if you really like the ring, I’d just suggest starting the process sooner rather than later especially Bc a) they need time to fly the diamonds to the nyc location; and b) they ask you to print, sign, and re-upload the forms they send you, all within a 24 hr time period from when they initially send it to you.

You may want to also Check out blue niles showroom in Roosevelt field which is  40 min car/ train ride from nyc to Long Island- they have bands and styles on site and you can basically walk in whenever Bc it’s in a shopping mall with the pieces on display.  ohiobee :

If you are off to NYC then also check out “Good Old Gold” and “Diamonds by Lauren”.

They both have websites. The first has lots of videos on YouTube. The second has a good selection of yellow diamonds as well as white ones.

In all cases contact them beforehand to let them know you are coming. As a previous poster suggested, get them to source at least three diamonds for you to look at.

This is excellent advice because you can get three diamonds all the same size, clarity, colour and cut grade – and yet they all look very different in terms of sparkle pattern.. This is one of the best kept secrets in the diamond industry. A small change in cut angle makes a big difference in facet appearance, rather like a small turn of a kaleidoscope changes the kaleidoscope pattern. So you might look at three excellent cut diamonds, hate two and yet love the third.

Don’t be frightened of contacting them. Diamond people love to show off their diamonds and will be pleased if you ask for a selection.

if I was going to go look at diamonds in NYC, I would DEFINITELY go visit LaurenB. I know they’re pricey, but I would do it just to look at all the gorgeous rings and giant diamonds I’ll never see in ‘real’ life haha
