kafy97: neither. If you already have your own diamond, a custom setting will enable you to get the details you really care about, as opposed to a stock setting.

I got my engagement ring and our wedding bands from Shane Co. Their customer service has been amazing and I would recommend them to anyone.

If I had to choose between the two it’d be Shane Co.

kafy97:  Yes — my suggestion is that you avoid both places. See the other thread that’s going on right now about mall jewelry stores and why you want to avoid them. Buy online (check with James Allen, Enchanted Diamonds, Whiteflash, Brian Gavin, Blue Nile to see if they will set your stone), or get a custom setting from David Klass or Quest or somewhere like that.

I think Shane Co is much better.

I would say neither, especially if you are picky.

Shane Co if I had to pick between the two. I had a loose family diamond but my engagement ring setting is from Shane Co. They have great customer service. I’ve had my rings resized 3 times and the work has been very well done. I wouldn’t purchase any loose diamonds from them though, much better prices online.

I have a semi-custom made ring from Jareds, and I’m very happy with the ring and the service I have received (each Jareds probably is different).  I did have them do some work on a ring I inherited from my grandma.  The put some new prongs in and replated the ring- they did an amazing job, but I didn’t have them reset the stones (I adore the setting).  I’m not sure if they will reset stones, but I don’t see why not.  They have a lot of settings you can add whatever stone you want to.  It is nice because you can end up with a completely unique ring for a bit lower price tag than going completely custom
