Has anybody purchased an engagement ring from any of the big chain jewelry stores?
I am curious about their diamond quality specifically… I know online it looks like their stocks mostly consist of diamonds with I1-2 clarity… is that all they have in store as well?
Would you recommend them?

I have not bought from them, and would personally not recommend them. I’m sure they have some nice rings and stuff, but for what you would pay there, you can get a lot more for your money elsewhere.

My ring is from Jared’s and I’ve been very happy with it, but I think you can get more from your money buying from BlueNile or similar.

I got mine and DH’s from Kay’s and I was very happy with the service and value. I’m not sure about the range of clarity they carry though/

My ring is from Zales, and I love it. Yes, we could have looked at other places (local jewelers), but Fiance was ina time crunch for when he wanted to propose after we looked at rings, and the one I kept coming back to was the one at Zales.
To me, that stuff is important… but I mainly went with style.

My cousin has a ring from the Vera Wang “Love” collection at Zales and it’s absolutely stunning, super sparkly and all that. I’ve never bothered to look close enough at her ring to tell the quality of the center diamond or what have you, but she absolutely adores it and that’s what matters in the end.

My ring is from Jareds and I love it. I priced shopped online and I think I got a great price on it. It was a custom made marquise yellow sapphire ring. They did a great job making it. My yellow sapphire is one of the best quality yellow sapphires I have ever seen. My ring has side diamonds, and they look pretty, but they are quite small, so I can’t really tell the quality. I bought my husband’s wedding band there and he has bought me other pieces of jewelry since then, and they have all been great. Jared and Kays are the same company. Jared is supposed to be the more higher end of the two, and then have in store jewelry repair shops. They have a ridiculously large collection of diamonds and if you don’t like any that they have in stock, they will order more in for you to look at. It worked well for me wanting a unique stone because they will order ANY kind of stone for you (any shape, size, quality, etc).

I think with these big jewelry names, you are paying for the name. You can find cheaper or even better for cheaper elsewhere.
If you care about “where” you get it from, then go with a big name. Otherwise i would go somewhere else and get more for your money.

My ring is a Neil Lane from Kay and I’m so in love with it. The center diamond is F colored VS2. The 95ish smaller accent diamonds are all G-H in color. The detail in it is amazing. Definitely something to check out.

I have seen their products online (not in person) and I do agree that they do have some beautiful settings and rings altogether- but I am kind of picky in terms of the clarity…
I actually ordered a ring online in a 1ct cushion cut diamond of I1 clarity and I couldn’t stand to look at it because I knew where the cracks were (after inspecting it when I first received it)- it was a beautiful ring but all I could focus on was the cracks. So we returned it.
I do feel like their stuff tends to be overpriced (you pay those big name prices) and I have seen similar settings for less cost and better diamond quality on Blue Nile, Adiamor, etc… but with Black Friday sales coming up in a few weeks- I am tempted to wait and check out what I could get at mall jewelry stores.
But I am impatient and if I don’t see something I like in the quality I prefer and within my budget… I will be dissapointed that I waited so long.

jenilynevette: I absolutely agree- I have no preference when it comes to the name/brand topic. I am actually thinking of purchasing my e-ring off of Etsy… =o)

beeFANTASTIC: I got mine from ShaneCo. I adored their service and rings. They didn’t side eye us for our age, or try to sell us a bigger rock. When we used FMIL’s diamond, they gave us a reasonable setting price. When they accidentally messed up FMIL’s ring getting the diamond out, they offered to replace the prongs for free. Their warranty is AMAZING.
I noticed one of the side stones was cloudy, and they changed it out, no questions asked. We always look for the same guy to help us when we go back.

CEM16: Your ring is so pretty! Neil Lane’s collection is beautiful- I have seen them online and drooled over them a little too.

I absolutely agree with both of you bees- at the end, what matters is that you love the ring, regardless of where it was purchased!

beeFANTASTIC: my Fiance designed a custom setting for my engagement ring through Jared’s. He bought the diamond for teh center stone from a local jewelry store. Jared’s put the whole thing together & i absolutely love it.
