- Wedding: April 2015 - Family Farm
I am incredibly upset with Jared’s. My Fiance and I purchased my e-ring and wedding bands from Jareds. While I was less than pleased with the overall service, I LOVE my ring. So I figured it was a wash.
Today, I called to get something with the specs of my rings as I noticed nothing was listed on my receipts or paperwork. I wanted to take out an Insurnace Policy for the purchase price. NOT an appraisal. An appraisal is for replacment cost. Two totally different beasts. Which I am well aware of as I am an Insurnace Agent and sell these kind sof policies all day.
The manager refused. Said that was impossible. They were not allowed to give me anything that details the specifications of my ring. Refused to help. Kept saying that I could come in for an appraisal. That would cost me $200!!!!
I asked “So, we bought a ring set from you but you are refusing to give me ANY written documentation that details the size of the diamonds in my bands and states that it is made of 14k gold? Am I right? You won’t allow me to have documention of what I bought?”
Say’s shes sorry, but she can’t help me at all unless I buy and appraisal.
I hung up and called their corporate customer service line. Explained what I wanted. Explained that the manager refused to give me or my FI documentation. Made it VERY clear that I understand the difference between and appraisal and a statement of specifications.
TURNS OUT THE MANAGER LIED TO ME!
Customer service informs me that the purchaser has the right to request a Certificate of Insurance up to a year after purchase that details the specifications of the items purchased. So, I filed a formal complaint, the lovely service rep apoligised and gave me her extention and a reference number for our call incase the manager went sideways again and set up an appointment to get me that certificate. Oh man. I was TICKED! Called the Store back and this time apparently got the full blown manager, it seems I spoke to the assistant. Well, he says he is sorry, and tries to explain that they were just trying to tell me that without an appraisal that my ring might not be covered for full replacement. At this point I am sad to say I simply spoke over him and told him that as a licensed insurance agent I am more than aware of that and that I really don’t care about any line he wants to sell me. That I will be coming in to get the specs on my jewelry as that is all I ever requested.
SO! Bees! Beware if Jareds tries to con you into buying something you don’t want. OR if they tell you that they are unable to produce a copy of your specifications for your purchase. This is a lie and corporate does not stand behind this practice.

That is horrible! My ring is ags certified and Ben Bridge gave me a copy and the original. Specs and all….. this is why it was so important for my Fiance to have a good experience when he bought my ring. We picked it out together and anyone who didn’t show interest and was just trying to make a quick buck was not getting our money. It really sucks that this one store is giving Jareds a bad name.

while others are reading ill also add Kays managers to the list of liars …. Took my ring to be cleaned before e pics they took my ring under the microscope to look at prongs and whatever (my ring is not to the high standards most bees here are but it’s still is real and wasn’t cheap for us so maybe this is why she took us as a fool assuming I knew nothing about rings) and told me they couldn’t clean it bc a coue prongs on my micro pave were bent and was surprised the diamond hadn’t fallen out yet and wanted to take my ring to have it fixed for $100 I told her I would like to keep it for the pictures and she’s gave it back warning me a replacement diamond would be $100 (bear mind my pave is hardly a stone they are diamond chips almost very small just enough to add a little sparkle) so I took to a we’ll respected small town jeweler to see what they would quote me … First they looked at it and said there was nothing wrong …then said even it had been bent they would only charge me 15$ … And they said they gets lots if people coming in from chains looking for second opinions only to conclude they were scamming them …. It’s been 4 months and no diamonds missing :/ A holes

Wow, sorry you had such a crappy experience.
I’ve heard terrible things about Kay’s, Jared’s and other chains. They are the Mcdonald’s of jewelry stores.

Kay’s is also bad! My brother ordered his wedding band from them. They were told it would be in in around 4-6 weeks. Around the 5 week mark they took my SILs ering in to get re dipped for engagement pictures and just decided to ask if it was ready yet. The manager told them it wasn’t ready but it should be soon. 3 weeks later my brother called and they informed him that the style was discontinued and they had been trying to call him for a month!! He showed them he had no calls from them and they double checked the phone number they had, which was correct! He asked well if you couldn’t get ahold of me by phone why didn’t you email me? The manager stated they couldn’t email customers and all they could do was call. My SIL called customer service to file a complaint and the lady said the manager was lying they can email and Mail. Also the style was discontinued when they purchased and ordered the ring!

Unbelieveable. My experience over just calling Jared’s for a watch put me off, so we never even looked at rings there. I got a Movado watch for my birthday. It is the bracelet kind with a few links. A few links needed to be removed (5). My fiance got the watch directly from Movado via an online order. I called the authorized Movado resellers in my area, Jared’s being one. I asked how much it would cost to remove the watch links. What sounded like an inexperienced sales girl put me on hold for a few minutes. When she came back, she said $20/link!!! I was appalled. I hung up and called a local jewelry store who has but 5 locations thoughout New England and has been operating for 100 years. They told me it would cost $10 for the entire adjustment, no matter how many links…and that I could come in any time and get it cleaned/scratches buffed for free!! We never did enter a Jared’s store…for anything.

Yea i don’t like Kay’s or Zales! I’ve had some horrible customer service especially at Zales.
Best places so far that are chain are Ben Bridge and Helzberg that i have gone to. Ben Bridge is where we purchased my ring. Everytime i go into a store they help me right away. If i ask them to clean it they do. If i ask them to show me my laser inscription they do. They are always good to me.

I agree Zales sucks. I bought a right hand ring for about $500. Lots of small diamonds in it. One fell out and they wanted $250.00 to replace it. The whole damn ring only cost $500. I was PO’d.

It’s annoying but not the end of the world though. My mom and I have bought all of our diamond/diamond jewelry at Jareds and neither of us have ever had a bad experience with them. You obviously just got an idiot when you called! Glad you were able to resolve the issue. I don’t understand why the certification card/paperwork weren’t provided at the time of purchase. That would be even more irritating to me than the idiot asst manager. I’ve always been given them.

My engagement ring was purchased from Jared’s. Apprasial was done for free and received certificate with all the specs. I have had my ring cleaned (free) and redipped (no cost) and received 1500 dollars off wedding bands! Im feel for you Bees who have had terrible customer service,,,,

That’s horrible! I’ve read so many horror stories (aside from this thread)! My Fiance purchased my e-ring at Jared and loved the experience. Then we moved to another state, and the closest Jared is about 2 hours away. When I needed my ring re-sized, I called and they said Kay was their sister store and I could have it taken there….well Kay said it’d take 2 weeks whereas they could resize at Jared in-store while I wait. After reading all the crazy stories, i refused to leave my ring with Kay to have it mailed out for sizing! So we drove 2 hours, called several times in the days leading up just to confirm that we didn’t need an appointment….called when we were an hour away (as soon as the store opened), they said great! We got to Jared…they immediately told me they were too busy and it would take 3 days. Needless to say, I raised hell and they were somehow able to “squeeze me in” and I got my ring back in 6 hours…..I was highly upset with their service, and even the girl who I’d spoken with several times was unapologetic. It left a bad taste in my mouth, so we did not buy our bands that day. We waited 3 months until we could visit our hometown and the Jared that Fiance got my e-ring from. We bought our bands right then, because THAT particular Jared is amazing. I hope I never have to go back to the one 2 hours away.

I’d stay away from chain stores like Sterling (they own Kay, Jared, and a number of other brands) for big purchases. They are overpriced and most of their items are lower quality, especially for what they cost. I do buy small things from Kay from time to time (and I always negotiate the price – I’d never pay their inflated retail prices) but an engagement ring? No way!

OP…that’s terrible! I’m glad you got it worked out though! I have never bought anything from Jared’s myself…but my mom had gotten a gift card for them and purchased a black and white diamond ring. She only had it a couple months when the “black” started to come off the ring…turns out it was only black rhodium plated and now the whole ring is white gold…she paid over $500.00 for it! She won’t go back and I will never go to one either.
I have purchased jewlery at Kay’s….the one by me isn’t too bad although the stuff I have bought isn’t high quality either. I try to streer clear of chain jewelry stores now…..I found a really nice jewelry store locally to me and while they are more expensive overall the quality of the items and service are worth it.

Wow that is some AWFUL customer service! I am glad you got your ring situation figured out.
