@slpscientist:  I think the reason why the JBS is not as elegant as the original is because the size of the rhinestones. Maybe you can ask them to change that?

@slpscientist:  It looks better, but definitely isn’t quite there. For one thing, I can tell it is being made to a different scale. The belt’s bling in the inspiration will cover more of your waste than in Jasmine’s. I think it is because the inspiration is on a thicker wasted mannequin? So it is longer. Your bling is a far amount shorter from side to side. I think the style of rhinestones is basically OK at this point, it’s not like the picture exactly but it’s very pretty. The other big thing is the oval – it is fatter vertically and closer to being a diamond shape, rather than a nice round oval. Whoever is doing the beading should draw in chalk and trace the original shape, then bead around that.

@slpscientist: the outer beads are too big and the sash is a little too wide so the center design isn’t a nice symmetrical oval

Hi Bees,

My mid production pics are in. Super excited!!

Its the Karena Royale with a Bernadette lower half.

1) I requested for a soft sweetheart neckline

2) The colour is meant to be ivory over light gold but it doesn’t look like light gold.

I have emailed James in regards to these two enquiries.

What are you thoughts about the dress?

And this is the fascinator that jasmine has made for me.

I don’t think it looks as delicate as in the actual picture. The bottom half looks a bit messy as well.

Thoughts bees?

@arabbel:

Excellent observation.  Because the bride gave us 72cm as the waist measurement (almost all beading designs need to be within the 2 princess seams on a size 2 mannequin while the original sash looks like made for size 10), we had to squeeze in all the beading design in a shorter front (there is only so much room).  The beading materials (especially rhinestones) only come in the original sizes if we want to match the beading materials of the original, so we have no choice but to condense the oval in the center to be more round.  This is a dilemma when the bride provides a different waist measurement from the original and when the beading materials are very specific, thus the only element we can alter to imitate the original is the proportion of the beading design.

You might ask, “hey, why not make the oval more flat in addition to make it less wide?”  Well we cannot, because the designs at 2 ends of the beading design are very particular, and in order to produce those designs, the entire beading patch has to be at certain width (the original width, cannot be more flat).  If you try to take rhinestones and form the design of the original you will understand what I mean.  It is like building a structure with certain designs, and the bricks only come in a particular size, so you are forced to condense the design a bit if you have to make a smaller version of the original structure.

The same thing goes for plus size brides who want ruched dresses.  A lot of ruching are slanted and form a nice 45-60 degree angle (for a slender look), but when we replicate the same design on a plus sized gown, the angle will have to drop to 20-40 degrees.  Because the dress is much wider than the original but not taller!  So the proportions have to be different. We encounter this kind of issue quite often when making ruched dresses for plus sized dresses 🙁

Thanks, ladies! I got a lot of compliments on the dress and it felt good to know that I didn’t have to spend thousands of dollars on the original to look and feel great on my wedding day.

Thank you all for your feedback. Arabbel, I think you are right about the width, which I didn’t catch. The original has thin strings of rhinestones that add to the width on each side and those are missing from Jasmine’s version and overall, it may just be shorter. I e-mailed James about changes and especially focused on getting the center to an oval shape. Fingers crossed they’ll still fix it (or just refund it if they can’t, which is also fine at this point).

@JasminesBridal:  Hi James! Could you please check the status of my shipment? I’m a little nervous as I’m not going to be available to receive shipments soon due to the upcoming US holiday and traveling. I need to make sure that I’m present for receiving the package. I know you are backed up, and a response for timing would be extremely helpful. I’ve already PM’d you yesterday. Thanks!!!
