We’re having a cocktail / appetizers reception during the day in a fancy old hotel, so I don’t think a DJ would fit the style we’re looking for. The big question is should we go with a jazz band or a string quartet? I think the string quartet would fit the space, but probably keep anyone from dancing, but I’m also worried that people won’t want to dance to jazz either… Has anyone had either a jazz band or a string quartet in their reception, and if so, how did it go??

I voted for jazz because I am having a jazz / blues band at my reception. I decided to do this because IMO jazz / blues is a genre of music that all generations can enjoy and dance to… in fact the band I chose played at my parent’s 50th bithday and my 82 year old grandpa actually did the twist (mind you he couldn’t walk the next day haha). Of course certain jazz songs are much more laid back than others and therefore probably less likely to get people dancing.
I think a string quartet would be beautiful but they probably won’t get anyone dancing in the same way.
I am totally biased towards jazz 🙂
