I’m getting married next May at a loft in Midtown and we’re looking for a jazz trio or quartet to play John Coltrane-type stuff during the rooftop cocktail hour. So far I haven’t had much luck with the NY mag wedding guide, where everything looks expensive or cheesy, or Craigslist, where a lot of the posts look sketchy. We’re on a budget (hoping to keep the cost of live music at the cocktail hour <$1000) and I was thinking of trying to find some Juiiliard students who would be good but cheaper than professionals. However, I don’t know how to find them or where to start. Does anyone have experience with this? Thanks!

They’re a duo, not a trio, but I”m using NY Ceremony Music for my ceremony and cocktail hour, and they’re able to do jazzy type music. http://www.nyceremonymusic.com

My friend used a quartet for her cocktail hour. Unfortunately their name escapes me. Wait, I got it. Make sure you negotiate with them. I know she was able to get a good price for the ceremony and cocktail hour. ~$500-600 and they were great. http://dolcevitastrings.com/

I highly recommend the band that played our CH (and ceremony and reception). Their name is Soul Revival and they were fabulous! We had a jazz trio for our reception and they sounded great. I found that they were quite reasonably priced also. Their website is: http://www.soulrevivalband.com
