Looking for a little advise here with the jcrew bridesmaid dresses. Okay from what I have read, these dresses tend to go on sale often? How often are we talking? and what time of the year do these sales typically happen? I love the dresses that I am seeing in the silk chiffon—> dusty shale color, but I can’t imagine asking my girls to pay $250 for each dress. Do I stick it out and hope that the dusty shale goes on sale, or do I call it a bust and move on?
Also, I am looking for some personal experience with with these dresses. My MOHs are both well endowed. My sister, one of my Maid/Matron of Honor, said that she has heard that they do not look good on girl with bigger girls? Anyone have some experience with these dresses and bridesmaids that are in the 12-14 size range??
Thanks for any and all advice you can give me. This is my first post here, dispite my spending many hours reading through posts.

Hey. I am wanting to get the dusty shale dresses as well. I talked to a J.Crew wedding rep today and she did not know when they’ll be going on sale. From what Ive heard, most of the time they go on sale is when the color is being discontinued. The J Crew rep said they are for sure going to be part of their collection at least through next spring. She said the summer 2013 line hasnt been confirmed yet. There are other cheaper options that I am looking at. Jasmine Bridal (not the chinese company) makes chiffon dresses in sea glass color that are pretty as well. I’ve seen them in person. I still like the J Crew ones better, but it’s a good option. Sometimes you can find them on ebay or other used wedding sites but I don’t want to buy used – kind of grosses me out, but everyone has different opinions on this.
I think I’m going to try to see if they go on sale around Black Friday time. If not, then I’ll go with the Jasmine Bridal dresses.

I would sign up for their emails- I’ve heard that they do usually send a 20-30% off coupon between Thanksgiving and Christmas, so I’m waiting it out until then since I have some time and they aren’t discountinuing the color I want any time soon (eggplant). I have a few friends who have worn these dresses who are on the bigger side and they looked nice. I have a couple of bridesmaids who are skinny but well endowed and I let them pick whatever style they liked so that they felt comfortable with keeping the ladies up.

Thank you for the advise! Who know finding bridesmaid dresses would be the most difficult things so far!

We just did the Evie in Bright Coral for my August 4th wedding. 2 of my BMs were a 14, one was a 2 haha. They go on sale here and there individually, just check, frequently. Your best bet though is for a sale to come up like 20% off your entire purchase etc… We got my bm’s during the Presidents day sale which was one of the 20% off your entire purchase sales. I put them on my credit card and ordered multiple styles and sizes so we could get the discount and choose (we hadn’t decided at that point) Then we needed one more so they matched the price for the third Bridesmaid or Best Man. Sign up for their e-mails as a PP said you’ll get the notices when there is a sale or coupon.
A few things I would say about J Crew dresses:
Stay away from the taryn for the bigger busted girls, it’s absolutely a no go, the bust area is miniature.
When we were discussing options, we all talked about how if it was a normal Bridesmaid or Best Man dress it would be the cost plus alterations, and the j crew dress is fit to size so wouldn’t need additional alterations, this was wrong. My Maid/Matron of Honor got hers altered very well and had no issues with hers the day of, but during alterations her and the gal realized the hem was 2 inches off on one side and totally uneven. HOWEVER J Crew actually is reimbursing her for the cost of fixing the hem.
One of the other girls got her straps taken up, the other Bridesmaid or Best Man didn’t do any alterations, both of them had to tape the bust closed on the day off as it kept gapping and showing their bras, so make sure they get them altered and move around in them and don’t just zip it and say yup it fits, I’m fine. 🙂 I really didn’t notice but I am sure being them it drove them nuts to deal with that.
Other than that Evie is very flattering, but I”m not sure what style you are thinking of. I’d post pics but I don’t have any yet 🙂

I didn’t get these for Bridesmaid or Best Man dresses but I have bought a few for special occasions/”just because”. I will say that it seems like the colors go on sale when it’s not quite the season anymore. However, my concern about waiting until they go on sale would be that sizing can be tricky since you can’t try these on in-store and sometimes, their sales are final sale. J Crew dresses, honestly, do not fit me exactly right off the rack, even though other manufacturers (e.g. BCBG, Tadashi) fit me perfectly. I’ve bought quite a few of their styles in various materials and the biggest fit issue I’ve had is the bust. I’m not well-endowed and I’ve worn these with a pushup bra, and I can’t explain it, but the fit just isn’t “right”.

So I just got a 25% coupon for people who are cardholders if you pay with your card… I don’t know if they’ll let you open up a card and then give you the 25% off, but it’s good through 9/11 so it’s worth calling up and asking if they’ll let you do that!!!

They always go on sale – every couple months. I’ve worn them in 4 weddings. Just sign up for the emails from JCrew and let your girls know when they go on sale. I got all of mine for at least 40% off.

Agreed on Taryn – I wore it in one wedding and there is literally a pic of all of the groomsmen staring at my boobs because they’re about to fall out. Funny/embarrassing pro pic, for sure.
