I’m considering J.Crew bridesmaid dresses, but can’t get a good feel for what the colors look like. I’d like to do something in a darker blue and ordered swatches of “Newport Navy” and “Dark Pacific”. The Newport Navy looks black and the Dark Pacific looks navy, but they look totally different in pictures online. I can’t get an appointment at their bridal shop for quite a while – they are completely booked and won’t even let you come in to see colors with an appointment! In the meantime, has anyone seen these in person or have any pics of their maids in them? THANKS!

@BLeigh: I am a J Crew user and my girls are wearing the Caspian Blue (very dark blue-grey) I fond that Dark Pacific looks more Dark Blue than Navy…Newport Navy is a very classic Navy. DarK pacific…a Dark Royal Blue with Slight Green Hints

@Beansy: Thanks Beansy! I think I’m going to have to make the trek to the bridal store and see these in person. I loooove the idea of “Newport Navy” (I’m getting married in Newport!), but the swatch they sent me was totally black…like I thought maybe they sent me the wrong one. I also like the Caspian Blue and would like to see that one as well. I’m thinking my colors are going to be light blue and navy though. Thanks for your help!

I haven’t seen those colors specifically, but I strongly recommend visiting the store to see the colors in person. Swatches are great but it can be hard to tell from such a tiny piece of fabric. Also, different types of fabric in the same color can look quite different, as I’m sure you know.
I ordered a J Crew dress for my mom in Rich Plum and it looks like a dark red on my monitor. In person, it definitely is a plummy sort of purple. It’s gorgeous and she loves it but it’s not quite what I was expecting.
