I have to say , I cringed when I read your opening lines…please, please, please do not buy pets from pet stores in the future.  Doing so supports the puppy mill industry and irresponsible breeding practices.  Still, Jetty is a very lucky dog to find a family both willing and able to afford that kind of medical care, (not that I or anyone else would blame you for humanely euthanizing him).  Hope he continues to do well. πŸ™‚

Aww, it is so great to read of his journey!  You are both great pet parents and I for one am glad that you saved this little guy from the pet store.  You are right – we all know that it isn’t a good thing to buy dogs from the store, but he is just an innocent puppy and didn’t choose to be irresponsibly bred and in a pet store!  He is so lucky to have you – what a cutie pie!

he’s so lucky to have you! my puppy came from a rescue, and within a few days of picking him up we had to rush him to emergency care. he was in quarantine icu for 5 days, and we actually went to put him down on the 4th day because we thought we were about to hit our credit limit and his care wasn’t sustainable (thankfully, the bill was lower than anticipated and he amazingly made a recovery the next day!)

i can so relate to how you felt — i cried ALL the time too. we’re both very lucky to have such great dogs!

@Miss Apricot:

@MrsMaine:

I can definitely attest to the perils of pet-shop buying. Four and a half years ago my ex and I got a kitten from a pet shop. Our relationship fell through, and “Kitteh Rawr” lived with him, but I was still recognized as his “momma.” Last August he died suddenly and without warning. My ex called me sobbing around 8:00 am. He’d heard the cat scream in the next room and rushed in to find him on the floor seizing. Then he just went limp. The vet said it was a heart defect. Something we NEVER would have known–and also something that was passed on genetically. My ex said the nurses were ALL crying. They made him a sweet little imprint of Kittehs paws in clay. (NOTE: My whole life I’ve buried pets, but this is NYC, where the only option was cremation.)

All that being said: Your ADORABLE pup has a wonderful home, and I am so so glad for that. πŸ™‚

@MrsMaine: He was a sweet kitteh. I’m so glad Jetty’s doing better, though. My heart breaks for every animal on the planet. Don’t bring them to me cause I won’t let them go!
