razromance :  I’d totally recommend checking out brilliant earth. While we had some questionable experiences with their customer service, I can’t say enough about the meetings we had with their sales team (one in chicago and one is DC) They are not commission based so it’s very low pressure and even if you aren’t ready to buy it’s a great way to get educated and explore your options. I went to some run of the mill diamond store in the diamond district, jewelers row, in chicago when I first started shopping and they were totally pushing the top of the line stones, which is fine, but they were also showing me some really bad examples of lower grade diamonds to sway my opinion of them and that just seemed a bit dishonest to me. You can let the team at brilliant earth know your preferences before you go in and they’ll have similar stones and settings ready for you to look at, but they have a huge online selection as well!

Max at Golden Dream Jewelers is the best!  Has made multiple pieces for me and everything is amazing quality.

Going out of lurker mode to recommend Christopher Duquet in Evanston! Whether it’s rings or other jewelery, the staff there is very helpful, designs are great, all-around awesome service. 🙂

Jeweler’s Row is overpriced and a rip off. I highly recommend Christopher Duquet. He’s amazing and the staff is fantastic.

Although we ended up going with a jeweler closer to where we live in Colorado, we had a great experience at Dimend Scaasi downtown Chicago. My parents got rings from them many years ago and we were in town to visit them so we decided to stop by for an appointment. The lady we worked with was great and had many options for center stones and side stones brought in for us to look at. In the end, my SO just felt more comfortable with a jeweler here.

They have an online presence as Rosado’s box. On our very brief honeymoon my husband and I went to Chicago and stopped by. I did not buy anything but they were quite nice to us and if I do ever get the chance I do plan to buy from them because of how nice the visit was. I do reccomend making an appointment though if you decide to stop by so they can have some things for you to look at. It’s not your typical brick and mortar with huge cases of stuff everywhere.

noobee92 :  there are several shops there in jewelers row so it is possible to negotiate prices down if that’s what OP is up for doing. We got a good deal for my ring from a jeweler there by doing so.

I’ve had rings resized at bella costa, they were slightly pricey but did a great job. They have an awesome selection too. I have friends who got their wedding sets there. I LOVE Linnea jewelers in LaGrange. Denise is the owner, she’s amazing. I’ve had several rings made there and have had work done. I’d highly recommend them. If you just need work done, Orlando’s in Oakbrook Terrace is amazing. It’s a total hole in the wall but he’s great at sizing and repairs, they do it while you wait, and are so reasonable! Let me know if you have any questions, I’m slightly obsessed and have loads of experience in this area! Lol
