i love Kestenbaum and Weisner (on 5th Avenue, just south of Saks).  the owner, Ron, is a sweetheart and really helpful.  i have always found them to have great stuff at great prices. (that’s where i bought Mr. Daisy’s wedding band and my wedding earrings!)

i find that, unless i am really coveting a specific brand or design-y thing (e.g. a Cartier triple ring or bracelet, or a Van Cleef Alhambra necklace), the big stores are pricey for what you get. i mean, who doesn’t love a blue box? but it isn’t often worth it in the long run, in my opinion.

good luck!

I didn’t end up buying our bands in NYC, but I checked out Michael C. Fina several times and the staff was very nice and informative on all the occasions I visited the store. I liked their selection (with many price ranges) and the helpful staff. One other place I wanted to check out, but was in renovation was Niwaka. They seemed to have very interesting contemporary designs without being too flashy. I think they have a Madison Avenue store now.

Have you tried the diamond district?  Some ppl find it a little overwhelming because there’s so much crammed into one section of the city but I’ve heard there are a lot of great finds.  Some vendors would probably even custom make something for you if you want.

 Hope you find something! 🙂

We had our engagement ring and wedding rings custom made in the diamond district. It’s saves you a lot of money if you know what you want. Let me know if you want the name and contact of the person we went to.

We got our rings at Michael C Fina too, and loved their customer service, and found that they had a wide variety of price ranges.  We mainly dealt with Jackie, who was awesome!

I love Niwaka’s designs…Michael C. Fina has awesome customer service.  My engagement ring is from Mimi So which I also highly recommend.  We will probably get our wedding bands from Niwaka.

I didn’t want anything new, so my fiance’ got my ring at Doyle and Doyle on Orchard Street. I think they have wedding bands too, but they specialize in antique jewelry.

Our friends got their wedding bands at a pawn shop 🙂

Check out Leigh Jay Nacht.  He has both estate and estate reproductions for sale.  All are beautiful and very vintage looking.  He is so helpful and a pro to work with.

We liked Niwaka a lot and went to look for FI’s band. Turns out their bands looked too small, even feminine on him. He isn’t a huge guy, but definitely big enough/manly and Niwaka’s wedding band’s seemed too narrow and almost funny looking on his hands. We didn’t even think this could be an issue, but it was.
