I think that gaining weight post wedding is really common and it unfortunately happened to me too. Except I wasn’t at my target weight at my wedding, and on top of that I’ve managed to put on another 7 kgs since then (I got married almost 9 months ago).

Last week I re-joined Weight Watchers (I had managed to lost 17kg in 2009, but didnt get to goal so put almost all of it back on). I’m feeling really motivated and much happier than I was a week ago.

So as soon as you start doing something about it, you’ll feel better instantly!! Its so worth it!

If you dieted to become a certain size on your wedding day, then after the wedding you stopped dieting, you would certainly regain the weight.  The same holds true for people who aren’t marrying but diet, reach their target weight, then stop dieting and return to their old habits.  

I’ve gained a few pounds since my wedding in April.  This was the first summer in years that I didn’t lose the weight I gained over the winter months.  I sat down and thought about what it is I’m doing (or not doing) differently.  The biggest things for me are that Darling Husband watches a lot of TV and I didn’t used to.  Now that I’m watching TV in the evenings with him I snack while watching TV and have gained weight.  Also, I cut way back on my walking.  In an effort to do things together I wouldn’t go walking if he didn’t feel like it. Or, we would take the shorter route because he wanted to.  And, I stopped walking alone after dark.  DH insisted on it.  I know it makes sense as far as my safety goes, but nevertheless, it has reduced the amount of exercise I was getting. Now that I have figured out the differences, I’m adjusting and hopefully on the road to losing those few pounds I have gained.

@CurlyWurly – keep your chin up – it happens to the best of us! In the three months following my wedding, I gained 15lbs! I’m FINALLY back to my wedding weight just in time for my 1 year anniversary next month, and going strong with my workouts and eating right. The fact that you’ve acknowledged your gain is the first step – now just work hard to get back on track!

It seems we had figured out how to maintain our weight when we were single.  Now that we have our husbands in our lives and our habits have changed, we just have to adjust.  The key is that we have thought about it and recognize what needs to be done.  That’s half the battle!

I would suggest looking at Myfitnesspal.com.  There are lots of Bees on it.  You track your food and exercise, and it helps you figure out what works best for you.  My favorite part is that it is sort of like Facebok with it’s community section.  Encouragement from others has really helped!

 

Of course, always keep in mind that your Fiance loves you and will be proud to call you his wife no matter what 🙂
