I originally bought the Jim Hjelm 8857 dress (2nd dress shown). Although it is a gorgeous dress, it just seems entirely too plain for me. Is there any way I can go to a seamstress and ask them to put an overlay of lace all over it to make it more like the Jim Hjelm 8763 dress (1st dress)?
I know they won’t look identical but I figured it’s worth a shot, right?
Please! Someone let me know if it’s possible!!!!

I don’t see why not. Depending on the lace that you choose for the overlay, it could be quite pricey, though.

If you don’t get a good quality lace, you are going to cheapen a rather pricey dress. Between the cost of the lace ($30+ a yard), plus labor, you could be talking some serious coin.
A veil with heavy lace trim
Lace trim at the bodice and hem.
If you aren’t dead set on lace, maybe an embellished belt/sash?
A lace jacket (think of the bodice of Kate Middleton’s dress)
EDIT–When I said $30/yard, I was thinking about a piece of lace I bought years ago. I just remembered that I only got half a yard. It was $60/yard. Sorry!

@Georgia Bee: Are we talking $500+ by chance? I’m willing to spend upwards of that much if I’m going to be happiest on our wedding day. Also, I did purchase the Lazaro beaded belt in pewter and…i dunno. I apologize for being so flaky and indecisive, but i really wanted movement and simple elegance in my dress–not flashy and simply plain. I hope that doesn’t sound awful.

@elired: Not at all awful. I was a 3 dress bride so I would be the last one to call you flaky and indecisive:) I really wanted a lace dress. I ended up with a satin ballgown. Loved it, but still drool over every lace dress I see on this site. Including dress #1…
I think you are looking at more than $500. I googled Alencon lace (just to get something) and came up with this website:
No idea if this site is any good, I just wanted an idea on pricing. You probably need about 8-10 yards, depending on the size of your dress and the pattern on the lace. You will need more if there is a border

If cost isn’t a concern, I would go for it. I don’t believe it will be inpossible, just possibly very pricey. An alternative though, is a mantilla lace veil?

If price isn’t a concern, why not just sell your dress and buy the type of dress that you want?

Did you get the bolero? I love the look with the bolero.
