I’m in my third week at my new job–I’m the web developer for this company–and they hired me knowing that I’d have to take a lot of classes in order to get fully versed on coding, photoshop, etc. I already knew the basics, and have a deep desire to learn more, so they hired me and signed me up for some classes at a university.
I’m so grateful for the opportunity, and I’m so excited to learn all of this stuff, but they’re expecting way too much from me right now! My classes don’t start until next week and today was crisis after crisis that they want me to deal with–without me knowing where to even begin to fix it!
I emailed my predecessor to check on some of the work I’ve been doing, he said that it looked perfect and is exactly how he’d do it. But everyone around here is freaking out, telling me that it’s different, that this and that need to be fixed!!
There is no one else here who knows what to do, I’m completely alone and since it’s my third week, I don’t have anyone to confide in, so my first inclination was to pop on here and vent. I know my skills will come in time, but I’m soooo overwhelmed right now and no one seems to get that I’m not an expert yet! They hired me knowing exactly what my skill level was, so why are they demanding so much outside of my range?
Thanks for letting me vent!
