Job hunting after relocation

Applying to jobs is the worst! I’ve lived and worked in a few different cities myself, as has my Fiance, and the biggest advice I can give is to use your future address when applying. Many companies either didn’t want to pay for relo or didn’t believe I was moving. It also helps to make it clear you will be there on X date and are not looking for relo.

I luckily found a job before I moved the second time (after a few months of applying), but the first time it took me three months of funemployment. It was not a deal breaker to any future employer.

Just keep your chin up and keep applying to anything that sounds even remotely interesting or related. The right thing will come up!

akshali2000 :  This probably won’t be popular advice, but I personally would not move until I had a new job, even if it meant that I had to start my marriage living separately.  I wouldn’t want to chance screwing up my career though, as it is really important to me.  If it’s less important to you, than I agree with PP and hope that you find something quickly after you move, but that would just not work for me.
