I’m in a really tricky situation at the moment. I’m covering a maternity leave contract and my time is up on 11 June (the person I was covering actually comes back next week, they’re finding other busywork for me in the meantime). I only have two weeks left before I may be unemployed!
BUT I have a job interview for another public sector (legal area) job tomorrow which looks just up my alley… positive thoughts would be appreciated! I think I 100% have what they need and for once my experience matches up. I really want this job!
The complicating factor is that due to having fibromyalgia I cut back my hours at my current job and haven’t worked full time since last September. I haven’t had much luck looking at part time jobs so had to start applying for full time, which is what this job is. I am BARELY hanging on to being able to work four days at the moment (and had a couple of months when I worked three) so I’m really nervous about whether my health will hold up if I got this new job, or whether I’d end up an absolute mess again. Also, my current employers have been VERY understanding & practical about things, and whilst new job is also public service under hte same umbrella, I’d be dealing with different people & having to start from scratch. It makes me so nervous 🙁
I do have a Plan B – I actually didn’t resign from the court typing job I had before I came to my other one – I rescinded my resignation and asked to transfer, which was accepted. But they later claimed I resigned and was no longer associated with them etc etc. Again, it’s public service so theoretically with my current contract/secondment ending, I should be able to return there. There’s an employee relations person looking into it. Its nice to know I likely do have a plan B, the only problem being as much as I really miss my old job, I left because I had a work related injury – RSI from typing 8.30 to 5pm five days a week! That plus the fibro really make my old job untenable. But theoretically because it was accepted to be a workplace injury they should have to find something for me to do – if I was to go back there.
Ugh, sorry for the essay! Long story short, I want to get this job I’m interviewing for tomorrow! I’m super nervous, for many reasons, but I do think it’s the best thing going 🙂
