Money aside, which job offers more opportunity for advancement? Its not always about how much he makes now, but what his potential is.

Also, did the current job say they would change their policies for vacation and paternity leave?

From the sound of it and if it were me, I would go with the new job. I would have him counter with an extra week yearly vacation telling them that his current job countered to keep him, but that he wants to work at the new company, however, with the baby coming he needs to think about his family as well.

I wholeheartedly agree with lefeymw I would go with the new company; but he should at least mention the counter offer his present job offered him to see if they can meet him in the middle….I wouldn’t want to stay with a company that offered him more $$ simply because he was leaving, meaning they had the $25K but did not offer it to him until he gave notice, doesn’t sound like a company I would want to work for.

Sometimes taking a pay cut means a happier life; I took a pay cut with my current job and have never been happier…for example I am at work now as I type this…lol…

Good luck to you and your husband!

I would go with the new job…

It doesn’t seem from what you’ve said about the old job that the company owner/boss has a very high standard of intergrity and I ALWAYS take integrity over what’s showing on the paper right then for pay…

The old boss could EASILY not come through AGAIN…. and then your Darling Husband would still be stuck right back where he is now.

If he hit it off with the new boss like you said then there’s no reason why he couldn’t go back there with the counter offer he was given and see if they could give him more $, vacation, etc…. If they can’t then atleast you know the knew boss is honest and not just trying to get him there with false financial promises.
