I was dealing with this about a year ago, and I worked hard at it.  Like hours a day on top of working/commuting and a part time certification which I’m still finishing up.  At the beginning of the summer I stopped job hunting and planned to focus on finishing up the cert, house hunting and wedding planning.  Low and behold – a company I had interviewed with in the spring (but wasn’t offered the job) called me up and offered me another role.  It was so out of the blue and happened just as I had taken a break from it all.  I guess the point I’m trying to make is that there IS light at the end of the tunnel and try to allot a certain amount of time to it so that it doesn’t drive you insane!  Good Luck – I know how daunting it all is!!

I agree. My dream job is seasonal though I’m putting in my app this week =) I would give anything to work at Spirit Halloween Store. They didn’t even call me back last year. Gr. My Fiance has been going through the same thing…

I feel the same way! I kind gave up a few months ago, not only because they often reject you but I feel like I will get locked into a position and won’t end up liking it ( I don’t have any great job passion or career path) . The more you quit and and start again, I feel like it ruins your record. but at the same time you want out of your job and want better things.

What kind of jobs are you looking into or what is your ultimate situation?

@Oneeleven: me too! I figured since I’m there everyday from September to November 1st I might as well make money to be somewhere I love! I’ve even helped them clean up and helped a few girls with costumes… I would LOVE that job so much

Me too! I’m just not on a career path I enjoy. I try to send out a couple resumes every week. It really does seem to take a month for every $10k of salary.

Ugh.  I’m job searching now (looking to change jobs because I hate where I’m at) and it is so frustrating.  The online applications are so time consuming and, like you, I’m not 100% sure what I even want.

Plus, I hate spending so much time applying for the vast majority of companies to never even acknowledge me. 🙁

@Mrs.KMM: Pretty much this exactly. The company I work for doesn’t treat me very well and I’m looking to find something else. It’s so frustrating and time consuming. The worst is taking the time off of work for interviews (essentially risking my job), sometimes multiple times for the same company, to never get an offer.

It is the WORST!!! So annoying to apply to jobs, not to mention it makes you feel bad about yourself when you don’t get any responses. Or when you interview and then don’t get the job. It just really sucks.

I left my job at the end of April and have been applying ever since. I have severe panic attacks when it comes to writing cover letters. I just CANNOT do it. I have to wait until SO comes home and calms me down. It’s really quite irritating.

I just applied to my dream job and also reached out to two editors there, so I’m hoping that I get an interview.I’ve applied to 10 others since the end of April. And I’m about to apply to number 12.

@PitBulLover: what are you looking for? are you looking in the district, or just NoVA?

If you’re looking for something administrative/office work, let me know and I can PM you with the name of the temp agency that got me my job. They’ve placed at least 4 people who I know in the last 6 months, and we are all thrilled with our jobs. (Obviously they place a lot more than just who I know, haha.) Lot of nonprofits work with them, but not exclusively, they place in the district, MD and VA; basically the whole metro DC area. You can also specify what you’re looking for, like for me it had to be metro accessible, since I don’t have a car.

Not sure if you’re currently employed or not, but they do offer both temp and temp to hire positions, so it could also be a good transitional piece if that’s what you need until you find something in a specific industry.
