- Wedding: October 2012
Aloha, I’m an October 2012 bride as well – so exciting! We were shooting for December, but family pressured us to move it away from Christmas . . . so October it is! Woah.
Anyway – invites are on their way – and I’m on my way to being slimmer and healthier for my big day.
Want to give it a shot? A shot? I’m gonna CRUSH it.
What is your wedding weight goal? 125. I’m 147.2 right now, have lost about 5 pounds in the last month from upping my activity. (I had a rough year with Hashimotos, and I was pretty much barely active for over a year until my hormones balanced out – now my body seems to be handling exercise again – and I’m gonna kick butt!)
How do you plan on achieving this goal? #1 – No excuses. I absolutely know what foods will destroy my dream of how I want to look in my dress – and I’m just NOT going to let some stupid fling with a donut, or a big beer, or something cheesy take away how I want to feel on our wedding day. It’s just NOT worth it. I know extremes can be challenging, but I also know myself and I know that I do better if I just don’t make exceptions. And when I do – not let that change my course at ALL – and keep going. #2 – treat my workouts like appointments – part of my schedule. I intend to double up my workouts (and have been for about 2 weeks now) – running in the morning (20 mins. at least – longer if I can.) And doing Jillian Michaels videos every evening – they’re only 25 minutes – they challenge me. #3 – remember that portion control is my FRIEND and that hunger is NOT a bad thing – to KNOW how it feels to ACTUALLY be hungry, rather than just eating when I feel like eating – to eat when I need fuel – and not when I need entertainment or emotional support. And not to confuse eating with happiness. And to schedule time with friends around ACTIVITY instead of food. (That one is hard for me.) 🙂
Have you started this goal? Yes – started two weeks ago – working out twice a day and being very good about eating fresh, local, veggies and fruits mainly, fish, shrimp, tofu, and occassionally Tasty Bites indian food – because it’s all natural, and it’s better than a more processed quickie dinner. I also juice as much as possible – at least one big glass a day. Feeling AMAZING already, and it’s only week 3. But it’s about consistency. I need to be doing this at week 13 and week 23 – when my wedding is.
Do you attend a gym? No – I would but I’m a poor college student and since I live in Hawaii (part of the year) – I find that a gym is unnecessary – the outdoors is so beautiful – and at night I can get my weights and toning in with my “appointment” with Jillian, my personal trainer. 🙂
Do you workout already? I have always gone up and down with it – but in 2010, I was probably the strongest I had ever been – working out a LOT and training for races. Then I got sick – and then sicker – and they thought I had everything from a brain tumor to ovarian cancer – to “it’s just in your head.” – Turned out I had Hashimotos (Thyroiditis) – and my body was pumping out antibodies that were destroying my thyroid and ruining my health. I was so sick for a year and half until I got more stabilized in the meds. (Finding the right doctor and NOT GIVING UP was crucial.) – But during that time, one MAJOR side effect was the inability of my muscles to recover from exercise. I literally couldn’t exercise without MASSIVE muscle spasms, and then heart racing so much that I wouldn’t sleep for DAYS – sometimes 10 days! Finally – FINALLY figured out that when I up my activity, I need more and more meds – and when I slow down, I need less. This went against everything my doctor believed in – but this is finally working for me and I feel SO blessed. (This is WAY more info. than you wanted!) Woah.
Does your spouse workout? Not like I do – but he’s a naturally SUPER slim and toned and athletic martial arts/dancer type body. Of course he can eat ANYTHING – but he’s naturally geared to eat healthy because it “makes sense” to him. We don’t tend to enjoy all the same workouts – but he’ll run with me, and we both love to hike and freedive. Hoping to take up tennis together next winter. 🙂 And as I get stronger, maybe I’ll get back into rock climbing more. I always liked it – but it requires trusting your strength, which I didn’t.
Anyway – lots of word-vomit there – but thank you for letting me answer those questions! It was good for me. 🙂 I have been doing my Jillian Michaels 30 day Shred level 1 every day for 2 weeks, and tonight started level 2 and almost died – I was nauseous for about 30 minutes afterward. But overall, I can tell something has shifted in my head and I’m just NOT going to let anything take away my dream of feeling beautiful, strong, elegant, healthy, and empowered on my wedding day. I deserve that. We all do.
