We already banked at the same bank so we just opened a joint checking account there. It makes transfering money back and forth from our separate accounts much easier.

I have wells fargo and haven’t had any issues since I’ve been with them.

FWIW, I have heard many bad things about chase (also, they screwed my parent’s over royally) so I will never bank with them.

i bank with Chase. They’re pretty typical. The one thing they’ve done multiple times that infuriates me is cancel my debit card and NEVER NOTIFY ME. Its usually because some vendor notifies them that their system was compromised. So thats my ringing endorsement lol.

I know you said you don’t qualify for any credit unions and USAA used to be only open to those in the military or with relatives in the miltary, but they’ve opened up several of their products to the general public, including checking and savings accounts. I absolutely LOVE them and have never had any complaints.

Darling Husband and I have had our joint checking account with Citibank for a few years now and they have always treated us really well, I would highly recommend them! Plus, if you ever go out of the country, they have ATMS all over the world and partnerships with int’l banks so you can withdraw money free of charge….that’s why we initially chose them! Good luck!

I didn’t realize there was a “qualification” for a credit union. We use a credit union and we love it. Clue me in?

@SparklyBride2011: I had Chase (and previously WAMU) and they were awful. They screwed me over in several ways. I would never recommend them, or BOFA (they “misplaced” $900 from my parent’s account).

Anyone know anything about Wells Fargo?

Darling Husband and I have had a joint account at Bank of America since we got engaged. I’m not super thrilled with their customer service, but they are pretty convenient. I like that there are BOA’s everywhere! And that we can deposit our checks through the ATM. We’re thinking pretty seriously about switching to the CU that we have our car loan through, but we’re just not sure we want to give up the convenience of BOA.

i would suggest a credit union over any bank 100 times over but thats just me – i had wells fargo before getting married. i had my husband add me to his USAA account and i have a Navy Federal account that i’ve had since a kid, which will come in handy when we decide to buy a home, we can shop around for interest rates – i’ve found they have MUCH better customer service and better rates on loans and mortgages.

misspeanut: USAA is where its at!

Darling Husband & I used to use Citibank, until we moved and now we do not have any within walking distance.  Now we bank with Chase… boht banks haven’t cause any major issues.

Only thing that happened to me just yesterday with Chase, was that I honestly forgot today was Veteran’s Day (I work, so doesn’t feel like a holiday)..so they funded all the bills that I normally pay for on my Friday pay-day..on Thursday. My checking acct didn’t have enough $ (as I do not keep large sums in there) ! So now I had to pay an overdraft fee.  I tried to fight it, claiming that I really didn’t know it would happen 1 day earlier, and they told me that it is in the ‘fine print’ of the online banking I agreed to when signing up…that if there is a holiday all funds are moved the day prior….yeah ok like I read that part.  I told them they should’ve reminded me!

I HATE HATE HATE Wells Fargo, they have some of the worst customer service. Darling Husband and I recently pulled our accounts from there and when we went in to close them we weren’t even asked why… Darling Husband has banked with them for over 5 years where we live (a small city) and yea… they were pretty rude. And they charge for stinking EVERYTHING!

I also am not the hugest fan of Bank of America b/c of their customer service either. Growing up my mom had all of her business accounts with them when they were Nations bank and shortly after the buy out she moved. Also, my grandmother as banked with them for almost 30 years and they STILL require her id everytime she goes in to make a transaction.

Things like that just bug me. =/

Mr.ND and I both used the same regional bank, and we’ve opened joint checking and savings accounts there so it’s easy to transfer $ among our individual and joint accounts. I had a loan through WF, and I hated them, but I haven’t actually banked with them.

Love Wells Fargo. They have given me so much free stuff since we started banking with them five years ago. I mean, they are waiving fees and issuing free certified checks all over the place, and their online system is snazzy. We’ve been nothing but pleased with them.
