I don’t remember that we had to have witnesses.  We did have my husband’s mom and brother there, but we weren’t told we needed to bring witnesses, nor did they sign anything.  I’m sure it varies by state though.

My dad and my brother signed as witnesses.  We had my parents, brother, brothers wife and brothers 2 kids there with us, so other then the kids, it could have been any of the 4 adults.

AFAIK, you’ll want to come with your own witnesses otherwise, you’ll probably end up begging complete strangers to help you out.

We had DH’s stepbro and my best friend as our witnesses. His mom, dad, stepbrother and his wife and daughter, as well as several of my aunts (and my friend and her hubby) were with us–14 people in all. Still, it was nice–romantic and intimate, even with everyone else there.

My brother and my SIL were our witnesses.

Our 3 kids, our parents and my brother’s two kids were the only others who took part in our out-of-the-blue JoP wedding.
