weightwatchers152 : sure I don’t mind talking about it. I actually was very nervous about the experience but it didn’t turn out that bad. My c section was scheduled for 9am so I had to be there by 7am. The nurses monitored the baby for a little while and had me sign paper work. I also talked to my OB, the nurse and baby’s nurse, the nurse anastesiologst and the regular anastesiologst. They started an IV while we were waiting to go back and made me drink this terrible stuff to neutralize my stomach acid. That stuff was awful.

The c section started pretty much on time. They had me walk back to to the operating room. My husband had to wait back until they had done the spinal. They had me sit on the edge of the bed curled in the c shape so they could do the spinal. The first injected some medicine to make the skin numb and then did the actual spinal. The spinal didn’t really hurt it just took the anastesiologst forever because I guess I had swelling in my back that made it difficult.

Once it was in correctly they move pretty quickly. They will put a cath in you because you won’t be able to urinate on your own. They also monitor some other stuff I can’t remember. They let my husband back to sit with me after this near my head.

During the c section I didn’t feel any pain just lots of pulling and tugging. I also tried not to listen to what the doctors were saying not to scare myself. It only took them 15-20 minutes after they started cutting to get our son out. It took a minute to hear him cry but they moved the baby warmer into an area I could see him when they were cleaning him off. After they cleaned him off and weighed him they put him on my chest to do skin to skin.

It took the doctors another 30 minutes or so to sew me up. We went to recovery for about an hour and I breastfed during that time. They also put these leg things on you that puff up with air to encourage circulation.

The worst things afterward. I got super nauseous a couple hours after and also started sweating really bad. They leave the cath in until about 6-8 hours after the c section and they take it out. I had problems peeing after that and had to have the cath put back in temporarily.

Other than being sore getting up and down now I feel pretty good. I keep up with the pain meds and that helps. You also don’t bleed as much after a c section as you do a regular delivery but I will say I’ve passed some huge blood clots.

We went home from the hospital after 2 days I was feeling so good.

I hope that helps.

happy2bee : thanks for sharing your experience. I’m scared of the whole getting the baby out thing, but for some reason the idea of a catheter terrifies me.

soontobemrs1011 : I was one of the ones that was given a 1/18 for downs syndrome based on bloodwork. I had pretty low papp-a and high free beta hcg. In my nonstop googling while waiting the 10 days for NIPT results, I did find that those who do IVF tend to have wacky numbers, especially lower papp-a. I also came across some studies that showed those who were using hormone medications also has wacky numbers. And then there was a whole theory out there that numbers can be skewed depending on babies gender.

We did harmony. I did the test on a Friday morning, and I think we got the results back 10 days later.

happy2bee : Thank you so much! I really appreciate you taking the time to share your experience! πŸ™‚

I am glad that it was comfortable and went well for you. Hope you, your husband, and son are having a relaxing weekend.

My nail technician warned me about that nasty drink too. πŸ˜– I’m nervous as well but more about the “what ifs”, like what if I have to be put under. I know my husband will be extremely nervous that day, for my egg retrieval last year he was sooo worried for me.

Have a great day! πŸ™‚

vanike : the cath really isn’t that bad because you are numb by the time they put it in.

I also wanted to share we had our newborn photos taken today and since the little guy is our rainbow baby, the photographer wanted to capture this shot. Our rainbow after the storm.

I can relax now! We got our Harmony results back today (exactly 1 week later) and everything came back normal. We also found out we are having a sweet baby girl!!!

soontobemrs1011 : Yay! Glad you got your results. My results came back normal as well, and we decided not to pursue further testing. I even opted out of the 2nd trimester blood screening.

soontobemrs1011 : Aaaaaah a little girl! I’m so excited for you! I’ve been thinking about you and hoping you got happy results. May the rest go smoothly.

27 weeks tomorrow, starting to stress about packing up the house and moving everything. I’m starting to get sore (back ache/tailbone pain) but otherwise I feel great. I feel like there is a ton to do and it all has to wait. I thought I had figured out crib/dresser for baby’s room and then I decided against it. It’s really hard to pick out furniture for a house you aren’t living in (and I’m paranoid that everything will fall through despite signed contracts/mortgage)

vanike : YogaMama : Dreaming13 : Thank you!! So much relief that baby is healthy. We are soooo happy! I wanted a girl, and Darling Husband wanted his boy, but he’s still happy!! This is the 1st grandchild for both his Mom/stepdad and Dad/stepmom. His mom and dad had 3 boys together, and his stepdad has 2 boys, so they’re all excited for the 1st girl!

vanike : I haven’t even thought about 2nd tri screening. I’ll have to look into what it is since I’ve entered 2nd tri.

YogaMama : Yay for your screeing results!! I can’t wait to find out what you’re having!

Dreaming13 : It’s such a pain to move, much less w/ being pregnant! It was our 1st home purchase last year and I was so scared of it falling through all the way up to closing day. I’m starting to crib/dresser shop now. I’m so picky so it’s going to take a while.

soontobemrs1011 : Can you share when you find something? I’m being picky too- I really want the back of the crib to be solid so nothing can fall back there. I was originally going to go with dark wood furniture but the rest of the room is going to be light (mint walls, cream carpet) and I’m worried it will look silly. And then I think everything looks girly and we are team green… If this house falls through, I don’t know what we are going to do. Glad to know it’s not just the hormones making me feel extra paranoid!

happy2bee : Such a lovely photo–what a beautiful little guy you’ve got there! Congrats!

Dreaming13 : The process of homebuying is the absolute worst–so much unknown and out of your control! I can’t imagine doing it pregnant! Hang in there, the right house will happen for you!

No real update here, more of less just a vent, so sorry… but I have my first sono today as the doctor agreed to do so to check progress rather than waiting it out or going soley off of HCG due to our previous loss. I’ve had some spotting over the last week, pretty mild and mostly brown/CM like, though I did have a bit of brigt red on Friday night which has me totally freaked.

I’m a complete anxiety-ridden mess about the appt and I’m just totally convinced there will be nothing in there. I guess I can’t be let down, at least.

If I can just get through the next 2 hours, I’ll at least have some answers…
