(Closed) July 4 wedding date?

It could work out wonderfully well for you as far as guest travel – or it could be catastrophic, if people have regular 4th of July plans and either opt to do that instead, or – worse – Rsvp “yes” to you but somehow space on the fact that it’s 4th of July weekend and then flake out. There is a thread on here today about some poor couple’s wedding that was on Fathers’ Day weekend and they ended up with only about a third of their expected guest list coming.

Sorry that’s not more help – it’s a toss-up. My sister had a Memorial Day weekend wedding and it was great, and then I read the thread about the Father’s Day wedding and it sounds like it really sucked for the couple. You’ll have to take your best guess as to how it will go over with your family and friends.

Have you ever tried driving any distance on July 4th?  It’s awful.  I wouldn’t consider that a perk of this date.

Our wedding is July 6 this year. There was a few people that couldn’t make it because of the 4th of July (long weekend), but all the people really close to us took it off, moved things, whatever so they could be there.

I would suggest getting your invitiations out earlier than normal because hotels may be booked up for the 4th and 5th of July. That way, your guests have enough time to book a room before anyone else.

My wedding is July 5 next year & a semi destination wedding at that.  We’re finding that is easier for people to take the time off, but also that some people are rearranging their ‘usual’ travel plans for that holiday & that a lot of things are more expensive.  Plan ahead, send save the dates a year in advance & you should be fine!

I’m torn on this so because while it’s easier for people to get off… it will be crazy for travel. If I were you I’d try to avoid it, but that’s just because I hate traveling on holiday weekends.
