Okay, so we DIYed everything. Our plan was to have our invites go out Feb 15th with an RSVP date of March 15th…early by most standards…but ours is a mini destination and we have to book hotel rooms and provide numbers asap.
Anyway, we printed this deadline on the invite. Fine.
We found an ETSY seller to do calligraphy for our envelopes at a really great price. We sent them over in Jan and were told we’d get them within a few days. We told the seller about our date + time to order custom postage. (In hindsight we should have weighed first to get the postage ordered sooner, but I was worried the calligraphy might change the weight…you never know lol).
Anyway, they didn’t come by the mail date (Feb 15th) We emailed and the storms on the East Coast had set back the seller, which is totally understandable. But she said they’d go out the next day…well no. They were post marked Feb 19th :/ We got them yesterday.
AND OUR RETURN ADDRESS IS WRONG! But this is FI’s fault. We rechecked and he did send the wrong return address.
So tonight, I’m printing out labels with our return address…it’s definitely a step down from the hand calligraphy, and you can kind of see the calligraphy through the label…but whatevs. At this point…I just want them gone!!
June feels like it’s a breath away…and I can’t breathe!!!
Oh and we’re still waiting for the custom postage to get here…so if it comes tomorrow we can’t send the invites until Monday…and if they don’t…ahhhh!!!

Um… I don’t even HAVE my invites yet. Let alone address. I’ve read sending them 8 weeks before (i.e. 2 more months from now) should be fine. You’re EARLY.

I understand what yo mean about just wanting them out. I did a test mailing that I sent to me and my mom. They both came in crumpled, like an accordian! But by then we had already done all the work and I just wanted them out – so I totally feel you on that.
Sucks that you had to cover up some pretty caaligraphy and that it isn’t happening in the time you planned. It’l all work out in the end! Good luck!

Oh no! Sorry that happened to you! Fortunately you came up with a quick fix. We don’t even have our invites yet!

@Beezysbreezy: I am sending my invitations out in a couple weeks, and I am also doing a couple test runs. I am so terrified they’re going to get crumpled in the mail like you said!! How did you send them? What do your envelopes look like?

@eda6713: I used A9 (5.75″ x 8.75″) purple envelopes from cards and pockets. I think what threw the mail machine off was the fact that I tied the invitations together with some twine. I read a really good post on here about the mail machines, and how even if you request hand cancelling, they will go through a machine at some point in time. So, I decided if they were crumpled, I’d tell people we’re in Florida and we wanted it to look like water? lol. Luckily no one has said they had any issues and I know people have received them – I’ve seen pictures. Do a test or three, but its one of those things, IMO, you can’t control – unless hand delivered. Good luck!!!

Fingers crossed the postage comes tomorrow…it didn’t come yesterday :/
If we get them out we still might be giving people 2 weeks to go on the website and RSVP by the RSVP deadline stated on the invite…oh sheesh lol!
I agree that it’s early, but we have to give the Destination Wedding inn numbers of guests for lodging etc because we’re paying and it’s all in contract.
It’s kind of funny, we’ve had two guests already RSVP on the wedsite…and several have asked when we’re sending out invitations. And they know the dates and basic info because we did Save the Dates last Sept/Octoberish. And it’s like, well you know technically we’re not supposed to until 6-8 weeks or whatever, but yeah I think our group is just rearing to go 🙂
