@GG_Vega:  Never had it but bring a book. Check your court’s rules – they may not allow cell phones/iPads while you’re in there, so if you bring it they may confiscate it for the day. Some courts do, some don’t!

Bring your iPad, a book, maybe some coins if you want to buy a soda from the machine. If you’re called to a panel, remember that one day it might be you on the defendant’s chair, and if that ever happens, you’d want your jury to pay attention and take it seriously, not be watching the clock and wishing they were somewhere else. So pay it forward.

I had to go last year.  It was the most boring 3 hours of my life.  Except to see who was actually being picked.  I was trying to figure out how the lawyers were judging the members of the jury.

Definitely bring a book!

@GG_Vega:  Joy!  I had jury duty last month and my Fiance has it this week.  Plan on getting there very early (esp. if you report to the LA courthouse, the free parking is several blocks away).  Know where you’re going, in LA there are three courthouses next to each other so you’ll have to figure out which one you go to.  Bring snacks, drinks, entertainment, and yes you can bring your phone.  If you want to buy anything bring cash since credit cards aren’t accepted. Count on the fact that they will keep you there the entire day no matter what.  If it’s for a criminal court saying you can’t/won’t judge the person is not the way to get out of it (they just reschedule you for another day in a civil jury case).  True you shouldn’t wear your grubbies, but you don’t really have to get dressed up, the most important thing is to be comfortable because the rooms are not.  PS also try not to bring a billion things with you because it takes forever to get through the security.  Have fun! (hahaha!)
