I would say civic duty, but I think it could be handled better.  Have a list of people for well in advance, perhaps by asking people to do it for so many weeks and allowing them to state a time period that is best for them.  Also, compensation needs to be a decent amount.

While I have never actually had to go yet (every time I’ve been called, it was while I was in college out-of-state so I didn’t have to appear), it really doesn’t bother me.  Then again, I have also always had jobs where I’d be paid while gone for jury duty so it wouldn’t really affect my income to go.

I voted ‘civic duty’… but it’s still inconvenient!

I should say civic duty, but mostly I’d try to get out of it. It just seems like they come after you at all the wrong times.

I’ve only been asked once so far, and it was right before the wedding. Fortunately, it was my home state that asked and I was living in a diff state at the time(I was still registered to vote at home….hadn’t changed it yet because I was waiting till the wedding to do all the license and stuff so I didn’t have to change again for the name change)……..so I was able to get out of that one cause I was over 2 hours away from that court.

I don’t mind jury duty exactly…except when I got called, it was for the first week of my brand new job! Talk about super awkward. Luckily, I didn’t have to go in for it.

@bakerella:  I’m super lame and want to do jury duty SOOOO badly.  Not for a super long case, but I’d like to be involved in the process.  Never been called though…

Something seems to flag me in the system. I get summoned once a year, yet pretty much every one else I know has been called like once or twice in the last decade. SO ANNOYING, espeically since I have to use vacation time to get paid for the day at work.

Yep, it is a civic duty.  But not a way I would like to spend my time.  I was summoned a few months ago, but it was for the county my parents live in (I haven’t lived there is years), so I got out of that pretty quickly since legally i can’t serve there!

I didn’t mind jury duty. I got called for it a few years ago and got put on a case, but it didn’t last very long because there was a mistrial.  The judge didn’t say what happened though. I wouldn’t mind doing it again.

meh, so far it hasn’t been a real ‘civic duty’ since I’ve only gone twice and I basically sat in a room for 2 hours or so and then was told to go home. That’s it. Maybe once I actually get to do something I’ll enjoy it or hate it, currently I can hardly feel apathetic about it.

But my Darling Husband loves it. Thinks it’s super fun. Would be a full time juror if they let him. Weirdo.
