I’m not currently trying to conceive, but I’m not using the best form of birth control either (barrier methods). My period is a few days late and I’m starting to over analyze EVERYTHING (am I peeing more than normal? do I usually get zits there when I have PMS? does this smell funny?), and I was wondering if any of the currently pregnant ladies or those who have children remember anything that stood out in those first few days before you found out you were pregnant?
I guess I’m looking for signs. Thankfully, I am married at this point so it wouldn’t be devastating to me either way but I really don’t like this limbo state. I plan on taking a test sometime this weekend if things remain the same.
Thanks for any insight. I know I’m being silly but I’m interested in other’s stories!

I know of a REALLY big sign: a plus sign on a home pregnancy test. 😉 You’re a few days late, it’s safe to take one. And let us know the results!

I’ve never had a baby but my understanding is you don’t usually have symptoms this early on… you are probably imagining them because pregnancy in on your brain. You can’t be a little bit pregnant : ) I say just go take a test now (or first thing tomorrow morning) and put your mind at ease. There are plenty of other things that can cause your period to be a few days late but it sounds like you’re not super confident in your contraceptive method so you should probably check to be sure ASAP.

I’d just go ahead and take a pregnancy test tonight or tomorrow morning. If you’re already a couple of days late, you should be well within the window to get an accurate result.

@Moose1209: Yes, you do have symptoms that early on. A lot of women do, at least. I had extremely tender, swollen breasts and light cramping/implantation bleeding. THe early symptoms are pretty similar to PMS, actually.

Ha. I don’t know why I keep putting off taking the test. It’s like I’m scared of the results either way. Oh well. I’m officially putting it off until at least tomorrow AM so I dont have to deal with it at work!

I remember feeling like I was about to start my period. I had cramping and a little discomfort, but the bleeding never started. A few days later the smell of bananas made me INSTANTLY sick. I knew I was pregnant then.

The only sign that could convince me was a home pregnancy test. And even that wasn’t entirely convincing… so I took 5 throughout 2 weeks. I’m obviously neurotic! :oP
During the first few weeks the symptoms usually don’t stand out. I do remember having cramping that felt like mentraul cramping. And massive headaches which I later found out was related to an influx of hormones.
My suggestion is to wait until you’re period is a week late, then take a test. See what happens!

I agree with most everyone else that taking a test would be the best bet!! 🙂 I have never been pregnant but I know if my period is ever a few days late, I get SO paranoid and I”m like omg, I’m nausious and my boobs hurt and things smell weird and I’m getting a belly! I know that when you think it’s a possibility your mind goes crazy!!! 🙂 but definately take a test hun!

Oh yeah, I convince myself I’m pregnant at least 4 times a year. I’m ashamed to admit how many home pregnancy tests I’ve taken due to my own neurosis, not any reasonable possibility that I was actually pregnant.
I’ll be buying in bulk when we actually start TTC. 🙂

I missed my period and I just KNEW. It was so weird-even though sometimes my period was a few days late i had never had that absolute feeling that I knew I was pregnant. I don’t think I started having realy symptoms until around 7 weeks.

Acute sense of smell. I could smell EVERYTHING…nothing smelled “funny”, rather I could smell stuff from far away or accurately identify smells without seeing stuff. Plus, I’m pretty damn regular, so like @flamingred I kinda KNEW, without knowing, y’know? At first, I tried to write off the lack of my “week before” symptoms to my period being late due to the stress of the wedding, which I then extended to the days I was late. By 4 days after my “period due date”, I kinda knew. I delayed the test until 7 days after, to be sure & sure enough, little plus sign revealed itself rapidly.

Bloat, smelling things and I mean everything and hysterical laughter. I mean, watching the Disney channel (yes, I’m a preteen inside,LOL) and something I would normally think is dumb, I just died laughing at.
