Hey fellow Bees, This is just a verbal rant, I am having a destination wedding at Breathless Resorts in Punta Cana, DR May 2015. Well just found out today that for the total cost of just myself and Groom the price that was quoted didnt include airfare so it has gone from 2054 (sans 600.00 deposit) to an additional 1200.00 for a total of 3254.00. Now for the all inclusive wedding package, I was advised by travel agent to just put 100.00 down on the least expensive package ( in case anything should change )its slightly easier to lose 100.00 opposed to losing 500.00 to place on upgraded package which I can upgrade once we arrive 3 days prior to wedding . Well now the resort has just sent me a spread sheet on items (flowers, chairs, sashes, etc) that I may want for the wedding, Now I worry I cant give input to this package when I actually want the upgraded packageI dont know if the if the resort will be able to accommodate my request on such short notice… I am frantic and dont know what to do……..Let me add our intention was to remain below 10,000 without dress, suit, shoes etc……

Quany76: If you are sure that you want to upgrade certain things then I would go ahead and tell the resort, so they can plan accordingly. If it works out that the upgraded package is cheaper, then do that. Since your wedding isn’t until May 2015, you have plenty of time to make changes. Maybe you can look into getting wedding insurance if you are worried about losing the larger deposit should your situation change for some reason. Or ask the resort directly whether you can upgrade on short notice when it gets closer to your wedding date.

[email protected]emstar168, maybe Im just freaking out! Just dont want groom to be upset because he specifically stated that he doesnt want to spend a boatload of money on this wedding, typically since we will be legally be married prior to going.

Quany76: with regards to the airfare issue, I’m a little confused. Is your TA booking your flight and resort separately and as such, they didn’t give you a complete quote? Every time I’ve travelled to PC, including for our own DW last month, we always booked a package that included airfare+hotel+transfers. It is your TA’s responsibility to give you a complete quote on the airfare and hotel plus cost and options for transfers if they are not booking as a package.
In terms of the wedding package, I assume you mean ceremony and any reception you were thinking of having. It is standard practice for the wedding coordinator (WC) at the resort to need a confirmation of the bigger items that need to be planned for your wedding. For example they need to know whether you’re having a symbolic ceremony or legal ceremony as the legal one requires a judge. They also need to know what location on the resort you want the ceremony to take place, if you want a reception, dinner and drink packages, etc.
In your case, since the airfare has now come up as an unexpected expense, I would re-evaluate whether you want the basic decor package or the upgraded since the price will now make a significant difference. You’ll have to make the decision and let your WC know so that she can ensure the decor items are available and reserved for your wedding. Keep in mind that many resorts in PC have multiple weddings per day and if another bride books the chairs/sashes, etc that you want, you’ll be out of luck.
Just a little tip, we went with the basic decor package for our wedding and it was still very beautiful. You’ll be in a place with absolutely breathtaking natural scenery and you don’t really need to add anything further to it.
If you have any questions, feel free to PM me.

@lanibug Thank you for the tips! I guess I need some reassurance that everything will turn out as well as planned. I find it hard to plan when you cant touch or feel certain items because of venue, but this is what you anticipate with a destination wedding. As far as the travel agent, after going over all of the e-mails he did state that airfare would be added once available, but that I neede to reserve room in order for the resort to be assured of wedding plans. Thank you for all of your input and with my additional questions I will PM.

Quany76: I know for us we are doing the room block before flight information is available, which is usually 10 1/2 months before the date. We’ve traveled to Mexico before so we had a ballpark idea of what we wanted to keep the rooms around to allow to stay under the budget we wanted for our guests.

Do you have a credit card that offers miles or does a close friend or family member? Maybe you can get there for free by doing that. That is my plan … luckily my wedding is 2 years out and we have plenty of time to save the miles. I’m also recomending this to our guests.
