@MrsPaulsBabyBallerina:  I’ve only had good experiences with the police. Even when I got pulled over, he was very nice. On multiple occasions, I’ve been in need, mainly because I’ve had car troubles. When I was shaken up after fishtailing on the highway, the officer who arrived escorted me off the highway and to somewhere nice to wait. When my car broke down in the middle of an intersection, it was an officer passing by who pushed my car to safety and helped me out. I’m incredibly grateful for them. I’m so sorry for your loss. Thank your husband for his service. It is appreciated, I assure you.

@MrsPaulsBabyBallerina:  From a fellow (soon to be) wifey of a Police officer I am so sorry for your loss. Devastating 🙁 I can’t even imagine how you, your husband and the family/friends or the poor man who lost his life are feeling. Very sad and RIP officer

@MrsPaulsBabyBallerina:  So hard to watch this. You make a great point, they aren’t all bad like some people portray. I think everyone should watch this. They are human just like the rest of us.

As the proud fiance of a police officer, lets say an extra prayer for them tonight and for the family of Officer Henwood.

@MrsPaulsBabyBallerina:  One of my best friends is a police officer. I have the utmost respect for him and his colleagues. I was nearly in tears when he told me about being involved in a siege recently but for him it’s just part of the job.

Yes, there are bad apples out there, but there are also bad teachers, nurses, admin assistants, charity workers, etc, etc.

Darling Husband is applying to be a police offer (he’s in the background investigation stage right now) and he works with the local police every day as an ACO – many of them are good men who are trying to make life better and safer for people.

I’m sorry for the loss of Officer Henwood. We had an officer here shot in the head awhile back – luckily, he was that 1% who survives and makes a strong recovery. He’s home now and recovering… there were fundraisers and support events thrown and the huge turnout for those event was heartwarming – there are many of us who recognize that LEOs put their lives out there so the rest of us don’t have to.

I know good cops and I know bad cops. Just as I know there are good people in every profession and bad people in every profession. I work very closely with many  of the police in my community ( my students have extreme behavior problems and are frequently arrested) I love and adore all of them. They are all such kind and patient people. The kids even love them. However, I had an ex who was a police officer who became one for all the reasons. He was racist, abusive, and he let the power go to his head. it is scary that he is a police officer.

@Aquaria:  I was detained by cops and insulted during the G20 summit in Toronto as I was walking home from my volunteer job (wearing scrubs!). Pretty sure they didn’t mistake me for a member of the Black Bloc with little sailblat printed scrubs on, but they thought it was necessary to throw the contents of my purse onto the ground and have two male officers frisk me when there was a female officer present.

This last year, I worked alongside two Crown attorneys, and the cops I encountered were disgusting horny pigs. There were a few that were normal dudes, but the majority said rude things to me. I didn’t realize that a black skirt suit and low heeled pumps were such a turn on? One member of the Crown told me that if I think it’s so bad, I should shadow the defence to see how bad it really is, yuck.

I’ve never even had so much of a parking ticket, but have had numerous experiences with police officers that just plain sucked. I don’t think they’re all bad, but I assure you, you don’t hve to have committed a crime to think many cops are power hungry and scummy.

@Asia:  Ughhh the worst part about my ex is that he had a minor in psych (and was NUTS) and would brag about knowing how to pick all of the “right” answers for the psych eval that the departments do. Grrrrrrrrreat. I got along fabulously with everyone else, though. Also, they really enjoyed my baking, haha. I got a lot of, “Hey…you know that [whatever] you brought in? Can you make that again?”

My bff is a dispatcher and works with three different departments and I don’t think she has any bad coworkers (that are officers, anyway), but you really do hear about the bad ones the most. Our local departments run a thing every year where they list off commendations (and the corresponding situations) for their officers, but naturally, it’s the douchey detective using company time and trips to cheat on his wife that makes front page news multiple times.

I have never thought of cops with anything other than EXTREME appreciation or respect. What a sweet video and tragic loss.

I am very thankful for soldiers, police and firefighters who put their lives on the line everyday for strangers. Most people couldn’t and wouldn’t do it.

@Aquaria:  I don’t think that’s always true. My mom used to work in a prison and she hated the cops. I met another woman who worked with them and hated them too. And my ex was training to be one and he’s really sexist. I know that there are good cops of course, but like many positions of power, many of them let it get to their heads.

I have a clean record and cops just make me nervous.

At the same time, my H’s family hates cops. He said he thought about becoming one at one point, but his family would have disowned him. His brother does have a criminal history though lol.

A policeman’s daughter here, and I say hear hear!

Tragically, though, the UK system is being let down more by budget cuts, bad policy and powerless PCSOs which you have to fight through to get to the actual police officers, more than the officers themselves. Aside from my father and his coworkers, who are people I would trust ina heartbeat, I’ve dealt with many police officers in my new city and every single one has been amazing. It’s just the support side that is letting them down.
