So my dad passed away 5 years ago. We hadn’t been in contact for a long time, but he really loved me and I wish I’d given him the opportunity to be in my life. Anyway, a couple of years ago, I did a search for unclaimed property in the state of Michigan. My name is on a couple of things (with my mother’s), and my dad had a couple of things, as well. I filled out the paperwork, requested his death certificate from the county, got copies of my birth certificate (to prove that I’m his heir), driver’s license, etc., found a friend who could notarize the paperwork, and sent it all in. Four months later, I get another form sent back to me, basically the same damn thing I sent them before, and I need to fill it out again. I finally got around to filling it out, getting that one notarized, and sent it back in. I actually forgot about it, haha.
Yesterday! I got the check in the mail! It’s not much (~$750), but it’s a cushion for the wedding and that’s awesome.

Awesome! Just a heads up though… When I inherited a little money from my grandma I deposited it and thought nothing of it After i spent it. Two years later I got a whopper of a tax bill for unlisted revenue. So in case you didnt know, Just make a note to report it!
