Aww 🙁 Sorry you had a rough day. People can be so rude! I’m always surprised at the things I see people do. I hope tomorrow is a better day than today was!

I think it’s just part of service-industry work. I wait tables on the weekends and am surprised at how blind people can be when looking straight at me. I was picking up dishes at one party table, had them stacked to my chin and threatening to crash to the floor at any minute, and those stupid ladies were still trying to hand me their soup bowls and salad plates and then giving me this puzzled look like “why don’t you take it?”

People expect us to magically transform to their will at any given second as if we’re superheroes.

Just get through your shifts, destress with some amazing sex with your SO afterwards, and try to remember the good customers who can remember to say “thank you” once in a while.

I work in Customer Service at a popular food retailer in the South. People are absolutely ridiculous. I feel your pain!

I’ve been a server off and on for years through college, and service jobs suck. Also, I can honestly say people suck, which I didn’t think was true before working with them day in and day out. I hate people.

I always make sure to smile and thank the person who bags my groceries and any clerk who helps me locate an item. In general, I try to be friendly to any staff I encounter when shopping. Same goes for waitstaff when I’m dining out. But that’s probably because I work in retail myself. Some people are just oblivious or downright rude.

@mandy102:  Aww! I’m sorry you’re having a tough day!

In a related story that may make you laugh, my husband had a “bright idea” that actually had the opposite effect on the service clerk checking us out at our grocery store. He wanted to “brighten their day” with a practical joke. There was a bin of TINY potatoes, and he placed ONE in a bag… it was about the size of the tip of my pinky finger. Anyway, he thought it would be funny, but the clerk looked at him like, “WTF?” and just slammed the potatoe in the bag and did not charge for it. Oops!

He put it in the freezer to laugh at on bad days. He felt so bad for doing it at first, but now he is back to thinking it’s the funniest thing ever.

Don’t feel bad. It’s not you. It doesn’t matter where you work, there’s always going to be jerks. I worked at Walmart for 4 years and had a customer physically throw a camera at me 2x, threaten to sue me, and then demand that I be fired for smiling through it all while a manager stood by my side letting me endure it.. Now I work at an airport and have people get super hateful about not flying in unsafe weather. It’s like, is your trip to Arizona really worth you potentially dying? It makes no sense how people act so don’t let it get to you. 🙂
