Yep, forums frequented by real people are not the place for automatic validation.

So true!

I totally get the natural desire to defend/explain yourself when you feel people are misinterpreting what you’re saying, but getting nasty and angry when people are giving opinions is not cool. I also hate when an OP asks a specific poster to stop posting on “her” thread. Threads are public, and, even if it’s not the advice you were looking for, it may help someone else, so just ignore it & move on if it’s not helpful to you.

yep. totaly agree.

it’s annoying when you try to think and take the time to write out an honest, thoughtful, and respectful reply and the OP either dismisses it, thinks your an unsupportive b****, or just does what she wanted to in the first place. It makes you not want to reply again.

why ask?

there shoud be a warning ” I know I am asking for an opinion but what I really mean is that I want you to be unquestioningly supportive

Completely agree with this post.

Asking for an opinion does not automatically entail the OP to having rainbows and puppies blown up their butt. 😉

I really dislike drama, but sometimes I feel like I have to say something when it seems like nobody has represented an opinion, especially if I feel strongly about it. But I also assume if someone disagrees they will just ignore it. I don’t always expect people to reply to me and argue. It’s like just move on if you don’t like it!

@zippylef:  Love this.

OP, you said it perfectly! Sometimes I wonder why (some) people ask for an opinion, when what they really want is validation. If you want unconditional support, ask for it but then don’t expect honest feedback. Whatevs.

Can I ask y’all a question? I’m still new ish here, and I don’t know where to find the answer–it’s somewhat related to this topic.

If someone disagrees with you, and starts a back and forth kind of thing arguing with you, is that considered thread jacking? Or is it ok to engage in discussion if it’s relevant? I don’t want to be arguing back and forth, but I also want to make sure I’ve stated my opinion clearly and not sounded silly. 🙂

@zippylef:  Love that pic!

Sometimes people can be so snarky and rude. It’s just the internet. And these are real people that you are talking about. There’s a respectful way to give an opinion and a flat out wrong way to give an opinion. But in the end if someone post something you don’t like JUST CLOSE THE WINDOW AND OPEN A NEW ONE…
