lateralus17 :  You sound like my best friend. She already told me that if she had a budget of $20K for example, she would just spend half of that maximum for a courthouse then casual restaurant reception then use the rest for an extensive honeymoon.

avalily :  We will be heading to Barbados! We postponed the honeymoon since I am a teacher and we got married so close to the end of the school year.

Texas bride here – we are having a small-ish (around 75 guests), casual, laid-back wedding and reception. Around here it is fairly common to do the big production, and I would have happily gone to the courthouse, but my Fiance wants a wedding so we compromised.

A lot of brides/married women I know around my age (late 20s) spent between $20-$25,000 on their weddings. At the end of the day, my wedding is going to come in somewhere between $11-$13,000.

Specifics:

Our winery venue includes all of the food, the cake, ceremony & reception space including all tables, chairs & linens, dishes, flatware, glassware, food and beverage servers, some decor, set up/tear down, and security – around $7,500

We will not be having an open bar, but are serving a wide selection of different wines from the venue and beer out of kegs – around $500

No DJ, our wedding coordinator will be making all of the announcements for us and we will be playing a Spotify playlist through the venue’s sound system – $0

Flowers are minimal and are coming from a local grocery store – around $300

Officiant is a close friend, he is only asking for a nice bottle of whiskey as payment – $75

There will be other odds and ends of course, still need to buy my dress, etc.

mandakay0021 :  I love your wedding and would have never guessed that it was “low budget”. Where state or country are you from ?

Also I LOVE your dress. It’s so romantic.

lateralus17 :  To each his own though! I told my family I have no desire to rack up that much debt again and ok going to the court house.

I don’t know why you’re assuming that couples who don’t have a courthouse wedding are racking up debt.

RobbieAndJuliahaha :  I’m an Ontario bride too! I just wanted to mention about Stag and Does, apparently they are only really a thing in Ontario and Manitoba (says Wikipedia). I could never imagine having one myself but I have definitely heard of people outside my social circle having them. I’ve never brought them up on the bee because I can’t even imagine how outraged the responses would be haha.

OP, my wedding cost about 22,000 CAN  for 65 guests including rings (but not honeymoon). Our officiant/ceremony is humanist too! In terms of traditions, we had a couple’s shower, no traditional bachelorette or bachelors parties, the bridesmaids/groomsmen paid for their own outfits, and we are having an open bar for the rehearsal dinner and wedding. Here is my venue 🙂
