I wasn’t married on Kauai but we went there last Valentine’s Day and it was great! The only negative was our flight out was delayed and delayed and delayed again and we had to live for THREE DAYS in the airport. So that was a pretty big negative. I know several other people who have experienced that when flying direct to Kauai so please please please advise your guests to take connecting flights through Honolulu (there are more flights in and out of Honolulu so you have a much better chance of being able to get out on a plane other than the one that you were supposed to be on).

Which part of the island is the Grand Hyatt on? There are only a few resorts on the island on Priceline, and they are all really nice, so if your guests want to save a bundle they can just priceline their resort shortly in advance. We did that and stayed at the Kauai Beach Resort (awesome place!) in an oceanfront room for less than the rate of their cheapest room.

One awesome thing about Kauai is it’s small enough so that if you spend a week there you can feel like you’ve done quite a bit. Oh! And definitely do a helicopter tour! We did one and it was awesome.

Our favorite low-budget but SUPER tasty food place to eat was Mark’s Place in Lihue – it’s in kind of the industrial district and a lot of locals seem to eat lunch there. Our favorite expensive place was Kilohana Plantation, and my fiance (who is a foodie) ranks it as one of his top ten meals.

@katatatkat:  Congratulations from a fellow Kauai bride! Hooray, there’s hardly any of us on here!! =) Seriously, it’s so exciting to see another one. We’re getting married on the North Shore. We should compare notes !

@katatatkat:  I was so excited, I forgot to respond to your questions, LOL. We are getting married in September and sent out Save-The-Date Cards the week of Thanksgiving (10 months in advance). We’ll be sending out our actual invitations next week with a RSVP date on May 1st (7 months in advance) so that we can assess and see if we can invite any of our “B” list people

If you’re looking for a BEAUTIFUL Kauai wedding site, look for the Fern Grotto. It’s one of the most romantic spots on the island. Tourist trap at times, but still beautiful.

I didn’t get married there but we stayed at the Grand Hyatt for our honeymoon! It was SO beautiful! The pool area and the salt water lagoon especially!

@katatatkat:  yup! We actually had brunch there once! The terrace is gorgeous, super high ceilings, it opens up to views of the ocean, and there are a ton of flowers and landscaping right near the window. I probably have pics I’ll have to find some! We didn’t try the other restaurants, to be honest the food at the hotel is REALLY expensive, and there were plenty great less expensive options near by so we almost always ate off resort. The brunch we had there was nice though!

Congrats, how exciting!! We went to Kauai for our honeymoon and it was amazing! Poipu was also where our favorite beach was so excellent choice πŸ™‚ if you like hot dogs, you should definitely go to Puka Dogs in Poipu —  they aware so good we went more than once for lunch! Also, if you have time you should eat at Hukilau Lanai. It’s a little pricey but SO GOOD! That’s not in Poipu, though, it’s a bit farther north in Kapaa. You’re going to have such a great time! I can’t wait to go back!
