I’m new here and this is my first post! Today I went dress shopping for the first time and chose out a dress and put it on order. What do you ladies think? I like the way I feel in it, but never got that wow factor or feeling “this is it!”
My mother and bridemaids liked it but again no one was like “this is the one!” It’s slighly different to what I had in mind (I wanted bling and sparkle! – Gems/crystals throughout the dress) and surprisingly the one I felt the most “giggly/smiley” in was a ball gown dress (Mum loved it too) I felt like a princess but I’m also 5″2 and a size 0 in wedding dresses so I practically swam in it (I don’t think it would have worked for our theme and the ladies in the shop, and all my girls agreed) – Sorry girls didn’t manage to snap a pic though!
I ended up with a flowing mermaid style that is in a plain off white lace with no real ‘sparkle’ or detail, I ended up getting the belt seen in photos but I’m now thinking I maybe should have tried others? (The lady kept grabbing out this one and saying it was amazing, and it was! So I just ran with it.. Opinions?)
The real feature of the dress will be it’s shape, the belt and I am going to have buttons sewn all the way down the back with every 4th one a ball of gems matching my belt, also a sweet heart neck line. Maybe that will bling it up and give it that ‘perfect’ feel and look?
What do you ladies personally think of this on me? (Bare in mind this is a size 12 clamped to fit)
Also for the hell of it I did try a ‘bling dress’ I really liked it but it was actually a very unflattering cut and was just clamped in this fit to look good, it’s also a champagne colour. I would have needed a LOT of alterations to get it to look how it does in the photo’s but definitely loved the sparkles!
Did any of you ladies miss out on that “Omg this is it!” Feeling?
Thanks bee’s! <3 xx

I think it looks fantastic! And once it’s in your size I think it’ll be even better. The neckline probably needs to be more accentuated – sweetheart – but I think you chose well 🙂

In all honesty I love my dress but I do not feel like it is the ‘one’. I wanted something with long lace sleeves but couldn’t find anything similar, so I chose a dress that suited my figure and I liked the look of. I’m sure that on the day though once our hair and make up is done nicely that it will become the ‘one’ for us both 🙂

2 things –
Sleeves can sometimes be added in alterations, but this does not look like it would be great with sleeves &
Sometimes our mental image of our wedding doesn’t change with the wedding planning. My wedding was always either going to be beach elopement or winter wonderland…it is neither. The dress also was not one that I could have imagined, but it seems fitting for my newly hatched day!

Thanks ladies! It’s definitely growing more and more on me, and I did feel good in it wearing it in the store 🙂
Dogsbody92: Yup definitely will add the sweetheart neckline, I think it will help set it off 🙂
Sunshinewish15: Thank you, I definitely agree, hair and make-up plus finishe’d alterations I strongly believe it will be perfect! Also it’s good to know I’m not the only one who went in with a pretty solid idea of what I wanted and ended up with something else (originally wanted a fitted mermaid with bling) ended up with a plain lace trumpet! (Just realized I called it a mermaid in post, but the lady in the shop said it was a trumpet) and looking at it against mermaids it’s definitely a slightly fuller shape. It was actually because they didn’t have any mermaids to try except the ones that are tight down past the knees and look like they have a separate sewn on skirt that sticks out – Not the kind I had in mind!
WaitingDogMama: Sounds like you found the perfect new dress for a new planned day! xx

I’m trying to think what you think could be wrong with it.
All I can think of is that the sweetheart neckline could be more heart-shaped? It could be more fitted at the top too? And you could put more glamour into it with a slimmer silver belt? Or a constrasting bow or flower? Think Vera Wang 😉 Accessorise with whatever’s your style 🙂

I love it and I think it has some sparkle! I think it’s a classically beautiful dress that you will look back on and love!

I like it, although the belt gets lost in the lace of the dress. From pics it adds more crumply bulk.

I think it’s beautiful.
I love my dress. I can’t imagine a more perfect dress for me. The first time I tried it on, I thought, “well, this is probably my one of two favorites I’ve tried on.” Later, I kept on trying on dresses that were like it. When I went back to try on more dresses and had that one out as a comparison, even as I tried on dresses that I really liked, when I saw that one hanging up it was, “oh, there’s my dress.”
So, I didn’t have the tearful, “this is the one,” but it definitely is the one and i love it. I think it may just take time to sink in for some of us.

I agree, its not always a this is my dress moment! I have liked lots of things about several dresses but not one is “perfect”. So I am just going with the closest to perfect dress! I think that happens with more brides than you think! All of the wedding reality shows and junk make us all think we have to have that emotional freak out moment, but not all of us do:) Your dress is beautiful, makes your figure stunning!

So, I am biased, because I think we may be dress twins! But it is BEAUTIFUL on you! So I didn’t have that “moment” either and my dress couldn’t be more perfect for me.

Very classic and beautiful on you! But I totally understand your “not the one” feeling. I didn’t get that feeling with the one I chose either, but looking back at the photos of me in it, I now love it more and more every time. I too wanted something more “blingy” than what I ended up with, but I always complained about the beads hurting my underarms when they were at my sides, so that made me turn away from the dress I liked the most. In the end, I know that I will be 100% happy with the dress I chose, and the more I look at it, I understand why I went with it. It’s just that I didn’t get that initial feeling. I always go with the gut!
