My boyfriend and I went on a 7 night holiday to Fiji and it was just amazing. It wasn’t our honeymoon but I would go back there in a heartbeat and though I’d share my experience in case you were looking.
The mainland of Fiji isn’t great because there is no beach! We stayed one night at the Hilton on Denarau Island which is a converted swamp – but this is where all the big resorts are. The resorts are flash but if you want natural beauty, go to the small islands.
We spent the rest of the week at Tokoriki Island Resort. It’s adults only, with no kids, and most guests were honeymooners. I can’t recommend it enough! It was SOOOO romantic. You have your own private hammock overlooking the lagoon, and can swim, snorkel, kayak, read, eat, drink cocktails….it was gorgeous. Hibiscus trees, frangipani trees, butterflies, etc.
We loved Tokoriki, especially because there were no kids, so it was very quiet and private. All the Matamanuca Islands are very beautiful though – white sand and clear blue water. If you’re thinking of Fiji feel free to ask me any questions!

OMG, Fuji, sounds amazing! Would love to see some pictures. I think seeing some pictures will be the closest thing I will ever get to going to Fuji. LOL

I’m glad you guys are interested! I’m very happy to share as we had such a wonderful time!
@hisbaby, I will PM you with specifics.
We stayed for one night at the Hilton on Denarau Island and it was not our scene – it’s an artificial island with no beach. I’m glad we did our research as if we’d stayed there for a week we would have had an awful time. Denarau would be ok if you wanted to hang out by the pool at the resort, but we wanted white sand beaches and romance.
For a honeymoon I would recommend going to the small islands! That is where the nice beaches are – not the mainland. I also recommend an adults only resort – it’s so quiet and romantic.
We stayed at Tokoriki Island Resort: http://www.tokoriki.com/. The other adults only island is Matamanoa – that looked lovely too.
Here are some of my photos! Sorry they’re so huge!
The photos are of our little private garden overlooking the lagoon (we had a hammock between the palm trees), the uninhabited Monuriki Island where we went for a daytrip, and the infinity pool overlooking the sea at Tokoriki resort. It was so beautiful!
Check out the colour of the water:

Fiji is great but a little unstable politically (I’m from New Zealand) – every so often it can get a little hairy – but when it is good it is really good.
Another option is Vanuatu, stunning like Fiji but a lot more ‘un touched’ (but still resorts, honeymooners locations etc) – have been there twice. Same story as Fiji though, you want to stay on the outer islands with any Pacific Island destination. Samoa (not American Samoa) is also really popular with Australian/NZ honeymooners, less comercial than Tahiti and Fiji too.
Hope that helps 🙂

I just got back from Fiji – we went over there for a wedding. The wedding was at the Westin on Denarau… and it was absolutely beautiful. She got married overlooking the ocean, and then had an open air reception with an awesome band.
We enjoyed the resort, although we got a bit bored with the food as it was quite plain and boring!
After that we went to Castaway Island, which while beautiful I definately would not recommend for a honeymoon. If you are thinking of having a honeymoon – or trip there – make sure you pick an island that is kid free!
The kids on our island were really well behaved, but everything on the island was built around the kids. So want a relaxing float in the pool? not going to happen as the kids are jumping and splashing next to you. The lunch buffet is hamburgers and chips, all kid friendly, and the whole resort was in bed by 9.30 at night and up again early! For us, it just wasnt that fun. We got a bit bored because it rained a few days and we were stuck inside with no tv, and only a game of monopoly to occupy us.
Just pick an island that has lots of free activities, is kid free and has some night time activities and I am sure you will love it because we enjoyed it – just could have been better!
As an Australian, I could suggest Port Douglas 🙂 It is beautiful, has the great barrier reef and lots more going on.

We would love to go to Fiji for our honeymoon, but there are so many islands and resorts that is hard to know where to start!! Did anyone do packages that you can find online that include airfare?? I’m not sure if I should book through a travel agent or just do it ourselves? Any suggestions on where to stay would be amazing and much appreciated!!
