Agreed! We had a tough time finding something that worked in our budget, and we wanted something personal/intimate…plus something that could accomodate the ridiculous Ottawa weather!!  We are having our ceremony and reception at the Courtyard Restaurant in the market…and we are having 80 people. (So not tiny, but by no means big).  If you check it out online, don’t go by those photos! They have done some reno’s and replaced all of the woodwork with dark wood, and replaced all of the art work and tapestries (sp?), so it still has the heritage building feel, but with updated art etc!  The price isn’t too bad either, they have a minimum bill policy, so that worked for us.  Another  aspect we liked about that venue was that everything will be in one place, and less confusing for our out of town guests, which is most of our guests…Oh and that it is in the market, so lots of things to see and do for them…and great photo ops!

I just bought my dress at Sinders in Carleton Place…the owner is amazing! So I’d definitely check them out 🙂

Let me know if you have any questions! I’m pretty new at this, but its tons of fun to swap ideas with someone local!

It is a small world!! You wont be disappointed with the Courtyard!  We met with a girl Shannon and she’s so great!  I felt like a bit of a planning freak so early, but she was great and made me feel totally comfortable.  We didn’t look at the Museum of Civ, but it’s pretty gorgeous over there!  We booked our venue over a year in advance, so no worries abou the early!! Heck, I bought my dress last week and I’m just over a year out! hah.  Have tons of fun shopping, and good luck with the appointment next week! 🙂

Congrats OttawaBride2011!!  Not from Canada, but was nearly Canadian…I lived 15 min south of the Quebec border and would often travel to and fro…My grandma was French Canadian from Trois Rivieres
