My bf of 6 years proposed in the Rainbow Room in NYC. It was amazing! I love my ring but it needs to be resized to be a size 5 (it’s currently a 5.5). When we return it to get resized, should we upgrade it from 18 white gold to platinum? It’s about $300 to upgrade.
My ring center stone is a 2 ct lab diamond, color: F, super ideal cut, clarity: VS2

Congratulations!! Your ring is stunning. I would personally go platinum since there is no redipping required but it’s really a matter of personal preference.

Lovely ring! As far as platinum vs 18k, I would say try and find some worn platinum rings to look at first to make sure you like the way the platinum “ages”. Redipping isn’t that big a hassle as most people would be taking their ring in to get looked at and make sure the prongs are all tight every year or couple of years anyways. If you like the bright white shiny look the metal has now, I would say stay with white gold, if you like the patina on platinum, go for it 🙂

I am not a fan of platinum at all due to how soft it is and because of the patina look. My first engagement ring was platinum and I had to have it rerounded often and it just looked so scratched all of the time.
It’s definitely a matter of preference though.

Stunning!!! I don’t know anything about platinum vs wg, so no help there lol Who is the vendor?

I have an 18kt white palladium alloy gold ring and it’s held up just fine with daily wear. And yes, platinum DOES wear down, and it’s softer. Furthermore with a pave shank you’re not going to see any difference between the metals. One platinum ring, one 18kt white gold.
Eta: congratulations on your engagement!
