Here is mine! Class of 2015!
Here is mine! Class of 2015!
I don’t have a class ring, but as a graduation/birthday present my FI bought me a bracelet from Tiffany’s and had it engraved with my university and graduating year (: It’s like my own unique version of a class ring. I don’t want to show the engraving, because it kind of gives away my location.
I wear my 2004 Notre Dame class ring every day.
Oh dear! I never got one from highschool/college, but I still have my class ring from grade school!
FI used it to size my e-ring… too bad my preteen hands were much chubbier!
We don’t have class rings in the uk, so this is a bit fascinating to me. Are they a different style every year? Do all schools do them?
@Splodge2003: They are usually a single style for each university. Some universities in the US are more ring-obsessed than others (Texas A&M and Notre Dame to name a couple) and the alumni wear their rings often. There are university-specific traditions to when you order your ring, when you begin to wear your ring, how you wear your ring based on whether you’re still at school or not, etc. It’s also something that marks you as an alum of a certain school, which is easily recognized by other alumni, thereby forging connections while networking that otherwise would not be readily recognizable.
Most high schools have a class ring which is a style for the high school itself with the year graduated along the sides. Some people wear them for a very long time, some are kept as a memento. I personally never got a high school class ring because I knew I would value my university ring more.
@Splodge2003: A lot of the time you can get them personalized to either have a center stone that is your school color OR you can get a center stone that is your birthstone. Usually the school’s emblam or mascot is on one side of the ring, and on the other side you pick something yourself that represents something you’re into – extracirricular activities, etc.
I didn’t get to pick anything about my class ring since it was gift from the school, so it has a purple stone (iolite) for our school’s color (purple and white). One side has the school mascot (pirate) with my graduation year and the other side has a torch with the word “valedictorian” and my name. Around the stone is usually the school name.
I have one from high school. Our high school was different in that none of the ring was customized – every ring they’ve ever issued has been exactly the same, except for class year. Never wore it much though I suppose I would wear it for an alumni event. It’s really really ugly!
Class rings were not a thing at my university.
FI’s class ring!
Haven’t graduated college yet and I don’t have a picture of my class ring from high school. It was stolen just before graduation. It was silver toned (I don’t remember the exact metal), period stone with the image of the the Junior Classical League logo inlaid. On one side, it had the theatre masks with my graduating year and the other music notes with “WHS”. The inside had my name engraved.
I got mine last spring and wear it every single day! Ignore my chubby swollen fingers…it was hot! Graduated from Clemson this past December =)
An awesome ex boyfriend of mine stole it and hawked it. 😐
Another Clemson Alum here! I wear mine everyday. Almost everyone from Clemson gets a ring.
