I’ve never really thought much about the proposal and I’ve been proposed to twice.  Ha.

The first time was more of a surprise and honestly, I’m not a huge fan of surprises and I like being more in control.  My exH proposed while we were on a trip to the Caribbean and it was a very nice proposal.  Shitty marriage, but that’s besides the point.

The second time I had shopped for the stone and designed the ring with him and then I knew we had to wait until a certain time before it would be official.  It happened at home while we were on the couch and it was exactly what I wanted other than I wish he had taken the 30 seconds to get the ring before instead of me having to tell him to go get it!

And we had already talked about how we were engaged, so there was no heartfelt moment.  It was “do you want to wear the ring to your dinner with your friends tomorrow?” It probably sounds so awful, but it was seriously such an “us” moment.

Honestly my proposal was perfect for me. Just the two of us on a hike with our dog! He had a reservation at my favourite restaurant for dinner later. Couldn’t be better:)

My SO and I have been house shopping. Recently, I’ve gotten a contract on my house and put a contract on another. I’m waiting for the deal to close. I will be the one buying the house, but it will be “ours”. I think it would be so incredibly perfect if he were to propose on our first official night in the house after closing.

We both want a relatively private proposal, but he seems to want it to be on a vacation of some sort. I think it would be easier to surprise me if it weren’t, but I have mentioned the first-night-in-OUR-house proposal. He didn’t seem into it, maybe not romantic enough to him.

Timeline-wise, he’d have to be designing and having the ring made right now for that to work, so I doubt it will happen. But that’s my dream, right there.

downonmulberry :  I’d never given the specifics of a proposal any thought, like I knew I wanted one obviously, but never fantasized about how it would go down.

The proposal I got was perfect though, just the two of us on vacation, no one else around. It was short and sweet because my husband could hardly get any words out other than “Marry me”!

I love coloring books so I think the perfect proposal would be if he had created a coloring book that told our story and at the end was a page of will you marry me? It would have been an amazing keepsake for me and definitely my personality.

The proposal I got was unexpected and funny and memorable and although it was not perfect, I was still overwhelmed with joy.

My “dream” proposal was totally lame – I just wanted him to take me to a bookstore and propose in the aisles. Or in a park. I just had utterly no vision. I’d been proposed to before, by men (boys?) who had no ring and no plan, and not much caring. These “engagements” didn’t feel quite real, and didn’t last.

so I guess I just kind of lowered the bar over the years, or maybe didn’t dream about that particular moment. No ring dream- no nothing.

I used to tell my FH “it’s so easy, see that ring there, that would be great!” Just about some cheap ring. And he got kind of offended and said I deserved more. He even choked up and got a little teary  (well his voice got all hoarse) when he said I deserved a day that I could tell people about and feel so loved for years to come.

I didn’t know what he meant.

First, he worked really hard on designing the ring with me. I hadn’t even thought before him that it might be possible to tell someone I prefer rose gold, let alone have him take everything I love so into consideration. I have been much too shy to even dream of speaking a preference like that – and so I never did. But I guess this is one of the reasons I’m marrying him- he asks. He cares. He wanted me to love my ring – he wanted it to be the most beautiful ring ever made.

And then the way he proposed- it was a dream. He had my friends in on it, fooled me completely. I thought we were at Disneyland for a friend’s going away party.

He had a friend have us stand somewhere as though we were posing for a photo, and really he was positioning me so he could propose and I wouldn’t see my parents walking in over the bridge…(by snow white’s wishing well.) I didn’t even know they were there, but he made sure they could be there.  then he told me all these beautiful things. AND I have his words  to keep (i was so shocked I wouldn’t have been able to remember it all) because he also had the proposal printed on a beautiful canvas. He had a friend film it, and we took photos right then and there with Disney photographers, then he put us all in a limo and took us to my favorite restaurant, and they had printed a menu just for us, and his friend edited the video while we were eating, so then everyone could watch it. (They couldn’t really hear him so it’s good to have the video.)

i would never in a billion years have dreamed up something like this – and I’ll never forget it. ❤️
