Pregnancy and labour are hard, I am all for push presents.  I don’t think it has to be expensive or big though.  For one I got a gemstone, for one I got a band, and for another I got Tieks.

Push presents are rediculous to me. They were not a thing when I have birth 7 yrs ago. I wouldn’t have expected anything for birthing a baby. The baby is the reward. Although 2 days after I was cleared to eat solid food, my husband got me a big mac meal I had been wanting.

I got a baby and a Darling Husband who slaved away taking care of us for quite a while lol. That was present enough for me.

Darling Husband got me two charms for my necklace, a T and his birthstone.

For some reason the term “push present” makes people on the internet all sanctimonious. I have 3 charms for my dogs would have been a little strange if my kid wasn’t represented as well.

Darling Husband surprised me with one of those fancy self-warming Japanese toilets with two bidets and a dryer so I wouldn’t need to fiddle with a peri bottle during the healing process! Darling Husband is a genius, I tell you.

I got a turkey sub from subway, and a newborn baby.  Actually they were pretty much the best two things I have ever gotten.  Seriously though I kind of hoped someone would get me a piece of jewelry or something with my daughter’s birthstone.  No one did, so when my husband asked me what I wanted for christmas that year, that’s what I asked for.  I think he was shocked that I actually had something I wanted, since I usually tell him to surprise me.

For the first baby I got a silver and gold bracelet, second a strand of pearls, third a Tahitian pearl and diamond ring, and for the forth baby I got mandarine garnet and diamond earrings. Pregnancy was always difficult for me. Knowing how much I adore jewelry, my husband always made an effort to express his joy about the coming of the babies. Had I not loved jewelry so much, I think he would have expressed it differently though. Fwiw, I hate the phrase “push present”! I’ve never felt that it describes the sentiment of the gift. It’s a celebration of life coming into the world!

chocochai :  I’ve used that term before, too, unknowingly of course that it was offensive in any way. Thank you for saying so… and in a kind, and polite fashion too. I will refrain from using it…. I really had NO idea! I always learn something new on the bee 🙂

back to the original post now…. My Father-In-Law passed away while I was pg with my son (2nd child). My dh inherited a little bit of money after his dad passed. At the time, ‘push presents’ weren’t a ‘thing’ in any way, and I didn’t know of anyone who rec’d one. That said…. after my son was born my dh wanted to get me something and since a bit of money was there that otherwise wouldn’t have been, we ended up upgrading my e ring.

edited to add…..I also was dying for some fries from McDonalds, so dh (who otherwise never goes to McDonalds) stopped and got me some. I think those were the best fries I ever ate.
