My only option was to call, we don’t live within driving distance. I’m still bitter about my familys reaction towards my engagement, I was asked if I was sure its what I want, and if he gave me a ring….oh families they are something else!

- Wedding: April 2017 - City, State
I told my mom in person and sent a text to my sisters. For my Godfather, I sent him a Father’s Day card, and I included a note that asked if he would do me the honor of walking me down the aisle. Everyone else we told when we had a chance to speak with them.

My fiance has been in our life since my daughter was 4, she is now turning 9. The morning after he proposed I took a video of my daughter’s reaction and I sent them a video.
However it wasn’t the picture perfect reaction that I thought. First she thought I was tricking her and then when she realised I wasn’t, she responded with “what did you say?” and I asked her what she thought I said “Umm…yes, butttt…. you have to do the dishes, mow the lawns and the laundry if you want me to marry you” Lol clearly she sees the strain on me to get him to help out with the house work.

We called our families. That day we had coincidentally planned an escape room for us and 12 close friends. I wanted to announce it after, but one friend caught sight of my ring and it spread like wild fire until everyone was so excited!

We did it old school. We went in person to visit family and our closest friends that were within in driving distance as we wanted to tell them face to face. I phoned my friends and family that lived further away and he phoned his. It took a while to let everyone know but that is the way we wanted to do it. After that we left it to word of mouth.

We called our parents first and then our siblings. That same evening, we went to a big BBQ party where a lot of our close friends would be at and we didn’t say anything at first and just waited to see if anyone noticed anything different…an hour into the party, one of my friends stopped talking and screamed, “Oh my god, are you engaged??” as she pointed at my ring finger. LOL. Then we told them, yes we just got engaged and everyone cheered. My bestie was there too so she was super happy for us and I asked her that night if she would be my Maid/Matron of Honor. 🙂
