I do love marquise as side stones same for pears and half moons. I also really love John Dyer stones but they are all different many dont have names unlike the Larry woods cuts.

@dewingedpixie:  can you explain what medicine wheel and medicine cross diamonds are? Even google didn’t turn anything definite/clear for me!

@dewingedpixie:  +1 for more explanation on your more unusual cuts- are they for gemstones only?  I’ve never heard of a lot of the cuts on your list.

Most to least:

Round

Cushion/ Asscher/ Radiant (if I didn’t love the traditional round cut so much, I would have a hard time choosing between these three shapes)

Then…

Princess

Emerald

Oval

Pear

Marquise

Heart

It’s so hard to rank them! For me, it depends a lot on the ring setting the stone is placed in.

@medbride:

Some of these cuts are used primarily with precious and semi precious stones not diamonds. The exception being the Crisscut. I prefer colored stones, and these newer cuts are what are known as designer cuts. Some of them sculpt the gems others bring out the brilliance so they have the fire of a diamond. Traditional cuts were made predominently for diamonds and due to the cleavage of the stones. With better equipment and computers cuts with higher facets and odd angles have been developed allowing for stones with color to really show their beauty.

Celestial compass: This is my stone its done by Larry Woods

Octogon Brilliant

Criss Cut

More designer diamond cuts: http://www.hydeparkjewelers.com/signature-diamonds.aspx

Medicine Wheel also done by Larry Woods

Medicine Cross again another Larry Woods:

John Dyer Gems:

Larry Woods Gems, John Dyer Gems, and Criss Cut have all won numerous awards the last several years from the AGTA. Larry Woods and John Dyer also aim to source ethically and fairly which means you get a really good deal on their stones since they go to the source.
