Just for fun, what is your "silly" dream career?

I’m doing my dream job now as a dog groomer, but I’m having to make the horrible/difficult decision if I should stay. Even when I’m fully qualified, it’s never going to be enough money to allow me to be where I want to be in the next 5 years. It’s such a shame as I’ve wanted to work in the animal industry for years, but I can’t see how to make it work long term. I’m studying accountancy ont he side right now (boring ot some I know), but I like how its sort of like a puzzle making all the figures fit the right accounts, and I know that this type of career will pay well and have a future.

If I wanted to go crazy dream job, I would probably be working in Africa helping raise orphaned animals 🙂

A few years ago I would have said an equine professional (training, teaching, breeding/selling). But now I see friends who have gone that route and for the ones who don’t have deep-pocketed parents backing them, life seems really hard!! May have dodged a bullet there…

Next silly dream career is some sort of life coach/problem solver. I love listening to people’s problems and helping come up with solutions (I’m a “fixer”) — not emotional problems but like career, education, daily life, logistics type problems.

Own a café/coffee shop. I want to get the perfect balance between a dodgy cafe where you can get great comfort food  and a high end coffee shop but somewhere that people just feel at home. It’ll be somewhere you go when you’re hungover, or felling under the weather or a bit down and a place to catch up with girlfriends. There’d be comfy seats, a selection of phone chargers and plugs dotted around and books and more books. We would sell simple, comfort foods (soup with a variety of breads, chilli) and a range of cakes including special dietary cakes. A wide range of coffees (I personally don’t like coffee but I love the smell of real coffee), teas and hot chocolates. I would have an art studio upstairs where people could just come and paint or draw or sculpt. Maybe add in a craft morning every so often. Then I would sell the pictures/sculptures if people wanted. I would also like to have a trinket shop in the shop. Somewhere with handmade cards and pretty notebooks and candles and little coloured glass things that nobody ever knows what to do with. The café area would also be divided into a family friendly section where there would be toys and a little play pen and a non family section for just adults. In the adults section I’d also have a quiet section for those who just wanted a quiet place to read and those students doing last minute essays.

Basically all the things I like in one building. It’s not really attainable not just the huge start up costs the uncertainty around new businesses but because to find a location big enough and in the right spot to attract all the niche groups I want is pretty impossible. But I don’t want to compromise either. If I’m starting a coffee shop I want it to be my version of heaven.

I love these responses!

I would like to be a dessert taste tester, a  milk chocolate taste tester in particular. I would think that quality control would be important when it comes to chocolate… so the world really does need my input in this regard 🙂

I would also like to be the doctor that goes to all the NFL football games and determines if the players have a concussion or not, and if they are safe to return to the game. Not only would I have an important job to do, but I would also be guaranteed good seats to games.

I would love to be a homesteader, while fostering dogs and selling crafts on Etsy. Spending all day growing our food and raising up farm animals would be my dream. Making some side money selling crafts would be great too, as well as being surrounded by dogs all the time.

As a side business on the farm, I would rent out the property for weddings and have a B&B.

I always thought travel agent, because I love planning things, and who doesn’t love a good vacation.  As I got older though, I don’t think I’d like that because I don’t like dealing with people, and all your vacations would turn into work (scoping out places).

Our plan is for me to be a stay at home mom in a few years when we start a family.  I am really hoping that will all work out because I’m already looking forward to it.  I like planning meals, grocrey shopping, cleaning the house, working on a vegetable garden, etc.  If we could afford it, I’d be an amazing stay at home wife…

I always thought I was going to be a writer…I even got one of my college diplomas in journalism…I did a few projects, but nothing ever really serious.

I also toyed around with the idea of opening a bar and being a bartender, but I think the hours would have burnt me out over time!
