I’ve seen a lot of Instagram posts (specifically from howheasked) showing super cute proposals, or heard of stories where the guy suggested that the girl wear something nice for their date.
I am a hopeless romantic so I always envisioned the picture-perfect proposal. I had an inkling that I could have gotten engaged when I did, but also didn’t want to get my hopes up. So, I got engaged wearing “Christmas morning chic” (let’s be honest, I can’t even say chic). I was wearing my pyjamas (of which the top and bottoms did not match), had some awesome bed head going on, and no makeup. Suffice it to say that I while I was over-the-moon-elated, I was quite happy there was no photographer around.
So that got me thinking – what were you wearing when you got engaged? Was it the picture perfect outfit, or just-rolled-outta bed glam?

He proposed on the beach in Mauritius, so I was wearing a cheap little sundress and my hair was still wet from swimming. It was perfect.

I see proposal stories all the time where they’ve hiked somewhere and are in hot and sweaty active wear. That’s my worst nightmare!
As long as I’m not sweaty and gross I don’t care if I’m in a nice dress, my pjs or I just got out of the shower.

Black skirt, black tights, black boots and chunky white sweater. I was not expecting anything special that night.

Don’t remember AT ALL, but ours was low-key and at home if that’s any excuse. I do remember what we were wearing when we first met, oddly enough.

I was wearing a little black dress that I often wear for our date nights once a week. Had no clue he was proposing otherwise would have pit a bit more into my look.

We had been out celebrating our 11th anniversary, so I was wearing a dress and a cardigan and a touch of makeup. So I had put in a little effort, but wasn’t full out glammed up.
I was also slightly out of it, as I’d been to a sleep over at my favourite shop the night before and hadn’t gotten much sleep 😀

i had just gotten home from work, so i was wearing a button down and slacks

I will NEVER forget what I was wearing.
Fiance and I had just closed on our new house a few days prior. It was a fixer upper and the seller had literally slapped on white ceiling paint on every wall in the house…every wall, and not the ceilings so not only was there an uneven color difference, but paint drips everywhere. I had been spending days painting the house while Fiance worked.
I got home around 7pm, walked into our old house, and Fiance and our then 10 month old son were wearing tuxes…. I was wearing blue and grey paint splattered black leggings and a pink and yellow paint covered ribbed tank and flip flops. It took me a minute to figure out what the heck was going on 🙂
I was just as happy being a hot mess as I would have been all dressed up.

Sweats. The proposal was total surprise–I already had the ring. We had shopped for it together. I had no idea dh felt the need to do a full on, down on one knee proposal.
We were hanging out in front of the fireplace at my house, drinking wine & chatting. He suddenly got up and moved the coffee table out of the way, I was thinking wth? Like I said, total surprise.

We got engaged on our 5th anniversary. He’s rubbish at keeping secrets and I saw it come a bit before hand. So I made sure I was wearing something nice on the day, just in case and I was right. I was wearing a black lace dress and was happy with that decision because it’s a beautiful dress that became even more special.

He proposed on the beach at night after 6 days of beach-camping (with no showers). I was wearing sweats and a whole lot of mosquito repellant. Funnier was that he was wearing a headlamp as he was nervous and forgot to take it off! Together with the week-old scruffy beard, I was very glad there were no photographers as I don’t think you could get a less glamorous couple at that point.

Pyjamas – we were up all night talking and apparently he had plans for a ‘proper’ proposal longer down the line but decided he did not want to wait around 3am. It was so spontantenous, he did not have a ring at the time. I got that a week later after I got home from work, so I was reasonably formal dressed but nothing particularly pretty. Not sure what exactly I was wearing.

Work clothes. Fiance had been in cahoots with my secretary and coworkers to clear my schedule on a Friday and he surprised me by showing up in the morning to take me away for the rest of the day. I’m very close to my secretary/coworkers so I loved that they had been in on it too and helped make the day so special.
I only wish I had chosen something cuter to wear to work that day lol.
