My friends and I stayed at some hotel in Montreal.  The pictures on the internet were completely false.  The room had bugs in it.  They stole money and expensive things from my friend.  Rude as can be.  Another woman staying at the hotel complained of things being taken from her room as well.

It was unhabitable.  We reported them to the site we booked them through.  Fought to get our money back.  Absolutely horrible and never again.

Other than that, we had a great time in the city itself.

Four words: Holiday Inn, used condom. I don’t need to say anything further.

My girlfriend and I went to LaCrosse, WI for a weekend away and wanted a place close to town for the night life. MISTAKE. I guess I would call it a motel and it waa pretty lame- beds weren’t even lined up to the cheap headboards that were screwed to the wall, the furnishings were VERY outdated and the only pool was an outdoor pool which was full of nothing but dirt and leaves, no water. The bonus was it was so disgusting and pathetic that all we could do was laugh.

One year while I was living in Detroit my Mom was doing some internship in Mt. Clemens so I went to have dinner with her and just stay at the hotel so I could get the hell away from my crazy roommates.  She had a room at a Comfort Inn and it was disgusting.  We were itchy like the place was infested with fleas, the place was filthy and smelled like smoke, the comforter was in tatters; it was like a hotel where crackheads live or something.  I got some Rolos from the vending machine and they were dry, crumbled, and WHITE.  I kept hearing a car driving on crunchy ice and every time I looked out it was a cop patrolling the parking lot, he must have driven through there like 50 times that night!  My Mom piled a bunch of stuff against the door because she thought someone was going to break in and murder us.  She sent a complaint letter a few weeks later and they were like “Oh I’m so sorry, you are welcome to a free night at our establishment, here is a voucher!!”

@mandb122: That is AWFUL!!!

I’m a business traveler, so all of my experiences have been at three star hotels or better…which is pretty infuriating. It’s one thing to stay at a motel or two star and have trouble. To get a dirt room or bumped from a three or four star is so annoying!

; The Embassey Suites in Blue Ash (Cincinnati) gave me a room that was flooded. Because of a kiddie pageant and a soccer camp, they were fully booked. They bumped me to a Wingate Inn that was essentially a motel. Suite –> motel = very frustrated business traveler!

Across the street from that Embassy Suites was a Courtyard by Marriott that must have been an original property…it was smokey, the room was dingy, dirty, and outdated. I went our and bought ca Reese to keep in the car for fear that my suits would pick up the smoke smell.

Last year my family and I stayed in a little hotel unit in Auckland for a couple of days. The door got stuck every time we tried to open it, the bathroom was foul, and none of the electric blankets worked. The worst thing was that, when we all went to bed, my sister started sneezing and my mother pulled back the covers all the way to see if she was allergic to something in the bedding. There was mold and black hairs (my sister is blonde) all over the sheets. So gross!

Geez…I had autocorrect on the ipad.  I bought Fabreese when I stayed at that Courtyard for fear that my suits would smell like smoke.

I was staying at a Manhattan hotel (Times Square) that was a lot of money. It was my birthday weekend and I had invited friends to spend the weekend in NYC with me, broadway show, the works.

The hotel tells us upon check in that they have accidentally booked us on a floor that is CLOSED due to a busted water pipe. Awesome. They call a cab service and send us to a hotel in freakin NEW JERSEY for the night until they can find us another room. The cab ride there took 2 hours because the driver got lost. And we were not reimbursed for the cab rides. I was irate to say the least.
